My wife and I stopped in for lunch. We both ordered a set meal. We were so happy.
The rice balls, which are obviously their specialty, were some of the best I've ever had. Warm soft rice, just sticky enough to hold its shape as you bite into it, but not starchy. The fillings were next-level tasty. Bold and bright!
There was a delicious crisp and fresh salad with tomatoes that were surprisingly delicious, considering they looked a little pale. The spicy cucumber salad was crunchy with light chili spice and not too much vinegar. The potato salad was rich and creamy, with nice strands of sweet onion.
We tried both the karaage and the braised pork belly. I was impressed with both. These are normally fatty, heavy foods, but this preparation was light and airy. The flavors weren't too concentrated. The chicken was seasoned enough for taste without going overboard--so many karaages are over seasoned and too salty. The pork also had a nice light gelatinous sauce that wasn't at all greasy.
The miso soup didn't fail to impress me either. It had lots of vegetables and wakame, plenty of tofu chunks, and the broth had complex flavor that was reserved, but not bland.
The atmosphere is nice, but busy. And the service is direct and to the point, down to business with little friendly banter. Don't hesitate to...
Read moreI tried to dine in last year but it was too late because they had just taken the last order (2:30). I went in at 2:40. So this time I made sure that I allowed myself enough time. Ordered Karaage Lunch Set. The simple white rice onigiri was very tasty. (I was not sure if I was supposed to eat by hands or chopsticks.) Karaage was fresh fried and I loved that. Very basic Japanese home cooking. Cute interior. The lady could have explained to me that it was self serve style. You wait for your number to be called and you put away your tray. I would like to try Youbari...
Read more“store policy” that is quite ridiculous. cannot order a set to be shared for quick bite.. OK fine.. two onigiri to be had outside in the outside table.. still no.. Better go elsewhere than being suffucated by many senseless regulation and slow as snail service. Other foreigners have commented on the same poor service to foreigners perhaps this is the same. What an disappointment this shop exist in hippie nakameguro. The nori is soggy soaked with rice. Better off buying onigiri from kombini with crispy nori and have a wonderful time without being...
