Sawai Mountain Cafe — Restaurant in Tokyo

This one man cafe was a highlight of our trip to Mitake. The coffee was excellent and the food was amazing. We sat in the tatami room, which had a stunning view of the valley below.

Harry’s English was flawless, as he lived in Canada and the US previously. He was eager to chat with 3 Americans visiting for the day.

Leaving lunch we felt fortunate to stumble upon such a wonderful spot for a respite from the heat of the afternoon.

I highly recommend Sawai Mountain Cafe to anyone visiting the area.

What a fantastic place! If you’re in the area, I definitely recommend that you drop in on Sawai Mountain Cafe. Mr Ohara, who runs the place and cooks, was extremely welcoming and friendly. I had the roast vegetable curry, along with a lovely warm freshly baked bread roll. Both delicious. Sitting on the tatami of this traditional Japanese house you can gaze out of the window and see the steep sides of the valley through which the Tama River flows. The style of the cafe is an old-fashioned Japanese house. It's the perfect place to take a break while enjoying the economy.

My recommendation is the Power Salad. It's a big plate with a big bowl of bright color vegetables, which is a nice touch. It's also good that it contains ingredients that are good proteins!
