This one man cafe was a highlight of our trip to Mitake. The coffee was excellent and the food was amazing. We sat in the tatami room, which had a stunning view of the valley below.

Harry’s English was flawless, as he lived in Canada and the US previously. He was eager to chat with 3 Americans visiting for the day.

Leaving lunch we felt fortunate to stumble upon such a wonderful spot for a respite from the heat of the afternoon.

I highly recommend Sawai Mountain Cafe to anyone visiting the area.

Advice: Have an alternate option for lunch/food, as the days that the cafe is open are relatively...

What a fantastic place! If you’re in the area, I definitely recommend that you drop in on Sawai Mountain Cafe. Mr Ohara, who runs the place and cooks, was extremely welcoming and friendly. I had the roast vegetable curry, along with a lovely warm freshly baked bread roll. Both delicious. Sitting on the tatami of this traditional Japanese house you can gaze out of the window and see the steep sides of the valley through which the Tama River flows. And if you go at the right time of year, you can see the beautiful red autumn leaves. I look forward to...

The style of the cafe is an old-fashioned Japanese house. It's the perfect place to take a break while enjoying the economy.

My recommendation is the Power Salad. It's a big plate with a big bowl of bright color vegetables, which is a nice touch. It's also good that it contains ingredients that are good proteins!

If you want to access by train, it is a little bit of a walk away from Sawai stations and Mitake stations. If you take the riverwalk, you can walk along the river and enjoy the...

Great place. It is an old Japanese house remodeled into a very cozy restaurant. Really nice view of the mountains. Do not miss the Japanese style snacks with a cold beer after a long day of hiking or rafting. There is also breakfast, but we went around 2 pm. In the outside you will eat at the shadow of an old Japanese maple, with the cicadas in the back (during summer). Staff is super nice as well. We tried the Japanese curry and super power salad, both were great.
