It bills itself as a wholesaler but that is a bit of a fib, since the place is full of ordinary shoppers. They insist on selling items in large packets due to the "wholesale" fabrication. It is a little bit annoying to have to buy so much at once, for example 1.8 kilograms of peanut butter at a time, although the prices are better than other shops.
My family is very big on Costco milk, the "Hokkaido Sarobetsu Premium", and the Costco muffins. I'm glad to be able to get blocks of cheese and butter at better prices than elsewhere. A lot of the items here are very nice quality it must be said.
I sometimes buy vegetables here but frankly it's a nuisance having to buy a huge bag of carrots or something, and you run out of space in the fridge.
There are hordes of sample stands, and you probably could fill yourself up if you visited each one of them. Some of the sampling customers seem excessively determined to get their samples, and when this store opened it used to be that you could barely negotiate around the store due to all the housewives engaged in mortal combat with their giant shopping trolleys trying block everyone else from the sample station. Nowadays the Costco staff make people stand in line so it's not as bad as it used to be.
If you go on Saturday or Sunday, the car park gets totally full up, so you have to wait vulture-like for a car parking space.
The petrol station offers very low cost petrol and kerosene for heating if...
Read moreJust make sure you get there E A R L Y. That place fills up with folks who don't know how to operate shopping carts that large who meander through the aisles while letting their children run absolutely wild. Once it gets past about an hour after it opens (or all day on the weekend) expect to be unable to push your cart anywhere, because people constantly stop to look at everything, and then have people running into you because they're not paying attention.
The food court is awesome. The pizza and ice cream there is quite good and affordable, and it's very good.
Great selection of Western-style items which are hard to find elsewhere in Japan, and at surprisingly good prices. You're still buying in bulk, but I was able to find a lot of things I missed while abroad. Good selection of produce, meat, seafood, dairy, pre-made items (many the EXACT same as in the US), etc. Also has all the ridiculous things you normally go to a warehouse store to buy like jungle gyms, trampolines, electronics,...
Read moreit was my first time going to a Costco in japan. thanks to my friend she is a member so we could get in and shop like crazy (in fact we did not).
like all other costco shops, the floor layout is standardized. we found no surprise to the luxury brands and we could not move the large electrical appliances. so we went straight to the grocery part.
we found some good deals of FMCG like napkin pads, toothpaste etc. and were able to buy some. good to see there's vitamins and supplements too at a very low price. then the snacks and chocolates were also a good choice. moving to the clothing part, the feather and fleece jackets were good to the season. i was also able to get a pair of runners too. frozen food was also cheap but it's not for us. we could tell the citizens were really crazy for it, they got sushi, oysters, breads and cakes., etc.
we love shopping at costco, and especially in japan when the place is crowded and busy, but the people stay calm and...
