Pretty cozy space, and I walked in a bit before 5:30 pm. The chef speaks a bit of english and was running the show till another employee showed up. They gave me an english menu and I chose the 10 pieces chef's choice and then the soup. It was honestly one of the best sushi I had in Japan. Thigns were fresh, and he gave a very nice variety. The soup is made with shrimp head, and so is ultra flavorful! Also ordered an uni and another scallop cause it was so good. Had a great time chatting up other folks in the restaurant as well. Everything in total was 5900 yen, and they take credit card. Would definitely recommend!!

It was such a hearty experience we came back the second time. You can go off menu, and request for “special items” - fresh produce that the boss will and can find that morning. Our special was Nodoguro, which is more accessible towards Ishikawa. A pity we did not have any pictures. Sushi-Ya is a non-pretentious local eatery, focused on serving up the freshest produce. There’s nothing fancy but heartwarming food, prepped the way chef deems best.w

It doesn't open until six o'clock, so you can't go in if you go early. The proprietress of the nearby hotel "Tawaya" was very enthusiastic and helped us contact the sushi restaurant chef to arrange a seat. The seafood used in this sushi is very fresh. As a foreigner who often eats sushi, I have a new understanding of Japanese sushi in the mountains! marvelous!

The proprietress of the nearby hotel "Tawaya" was very enthusiastic and helped us contact the sushi restaurant chef to arrange a seat. The seafood used in this sushi is very fresh. As a foreigner who often eats sushi, I have a new understanding of Japanese sushi in the mountains! marvelous!

Reservations are a must. Had dinner for 3 here in Dec 2024 and was seated in a private tatami room and restaurant was full house. There was an English menu and we ordered chef's sushi set, superfine sushi set, uni sashimi, sashimi platter, negitoro handroll and miso soup. Everything was wonderful and on point.

Food and price point was deserving of 5 stars. However, 1 star is deducted due to slower service as the chef cum owner is the only 1 running the restaurant.
