March 2025 6 Stars if possible
Here's a little gem that surpassed all expectations. At first, we were a little thrown off because we were asked to wait outside (we were freezing cold after walking 20 mins in March). It's completely understandable because there's only about 17 seats. There are 3 tables and bar seating. It's a very lovely couple running the entire restaurant themselves. It's not recommended to come if you're more than 4 people. The menu is posted outside but the special changes all the time so you would need to see what's the week's special. No substitutions.
I was so happy to see a nicely renovated place with new furniture. The entire place was clean and so beautifully decorated with modern finishings. Even their cutlery was so cute. I appreciated the wood.
There is a wall showcasing their homemade pottery and it was fun choosing your own rice bowl for dinner.
The flavours were fantastic. Every dish was carefully constructed. We ordered the menu set with the week's special which was a daikon steak with mushroom, fried tofu and an apple meat sauce. It came with 3 sides, a salad, soup and rice. The vegetable side was my favourite as it had been sprouts, mint and cumin. I also loved the cold tofu side dish. The mushroom rice was great since I was craving mushrooms.
The highlight? What made it a 6* place? THE BEST HOMEMADE GRAPE JUICE I've ever had in my life! No jokes. Please order this! I regret not getting an extra bottle for the road. The grapes are grown on a farm 30 mins walking distance away. Absolutely worth coming just for the grape juice. Glad they use local sources. They also have local apple juice on the menu along with tea, beer and sake.
It was such a great price for what we got. Highly recommended. It really made me happy coming to this restaurant. If we stayed longer in this town, we would return to eat here without a doubt. Perhaps reservations are a good idea.
Thank you for having us! Sorry for all the photos, I just...

Read moreA very cozy restaurant with delicious food.
Ingredients were locally sourced and seasonal, I had the weekly special (minced chicken, vermicelli with red miso) and my partner had the Oden meal (limited to 5 servings each day).
Both were very filling as well as full of flavor. I loved the variety of side dishes that came with my set - stewed radish, potato salad with puffed rice + hint of mustard, and a leafy salad. Dessert was an in-house made soy pudding with dice apples and cinnamon.
The food was very comforting and I imagine it'd be the type of home-style meal prepared in a Japanese household (where the family is skilled at cooking 😁)
The interior was clean and cozy, a nice warm retreat coming in from the snow.
The owner was very friendly and explained the English menu to us. There was a wall of beautiful bowls that they made themselves; we were asked to choose our favorite with which they served our rice.
Coffee here was excellent, coffee beans are ground and brewed on order (pourover I reckon). They had Brazilian beans roasted locally (by a diff shop I believe).
They also had local honey available but I didn't try it.
Extremely good value and I...
