What a very pleasing experience at La Capannina Italian restaurant on our last night in Jersey and after getting soaked up in the rain after Battle of the Flowers parade. (11/8/23). We only did a walk-in and were lucky to have been accepted even though the place was fully busy.
Fab, excellent service, with food served right in front of you in their trolleys, giving the Italian essence. Highly recommend: Lobster soup, Saddle of Lamb, and Tiramisu! The best. What we had: soups: Zuppa D’Astice Homemade Lobster Soup Cannelloni Alla Parmigiana : Homemade Pasta filled with Spinach and Veal Mains: Saddle of Lamb The most tender and exquisite cut of lamb. amazingly good - the cranberry sauce with the gravy gives the perfect taste of sweetness and tastiness! I would definitely go back for this if I can. Filetto di Manzo Al Pepe Nero Fillet Steak in Black Pepper Sauce - 4/5 Dessert: Tiramisu topped with strawberries After digestives: Espresso shot Limoncello
The walls are filled with fine art also being sold and the place has a traditional vibe overall....
Read moreI don't mind spending money on good food. The food here is unfortunately very plain and not fresh at all.
Ordered snails as a starter, underseasoned and very chewy with the cheapest white toast bread in a shape of soldiers... Very poor. Second was vongole tagliatelle, where I specifically asked for al-dente, as I am aware of the tendency to overcook pasta in restaurants... Pasta came mushy, the tomato sauce was unbalanced and acidic only and the clams were visibly cooked from frozen. My friend had a seafood risoto, which had no creaminess and the rice was very undercooked. Both main dishes were around 40 quids each.
Initially, the service was allright, attentive, but when I didn't finish half of my pasta, noone asked if the food was okey, noone asked about our overall experience at the end.
We skipped desserts, as they were showcased on the trolley and didn't look appetising at all.
For this money, there are far far far superior restaurants...
Read moreI would like to echo the last reviewer of this restaurant. The set menu for £35 was decent value, but then the price of drinks appears.
A Negroni was £14.50. You could go to a top bar in London, New York or Melbourne and pay £9 - 10 pounds for a much better drink.
I then ordered ONE glass of wine with my meal and it ended up being £10!!! When I argued this, they said that all their prices were displayed but when earlier in the night I had asked for a wine list they said just look at what they had behind the bar and that's what was available. There was also clearly no prices displayed behind the bar.
And then on top of all this they added a 10% service charge onto the bill.
I didn't expect drinks to be bargain basement prices but the cost was outright daylight robbery. And the staff were very snooty when I argued the bill.
Let this be a warning to others to might want to eat here. Food was decent but the added costs were absolutely...
