My Extraordinary Experience at MEI LI Restaurant , Grand Hyatt Hotel - Heaven on a Plate

When it comes to dining, I often keep my reviews brief, but my experience at MEI LI, the Asian restaurant at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Kuwait, is far from ordinary and deserves to be celebrated in detail. Having visited twice—on December 30, 2024, and just yesterday—I can confidently say that MEI LI is not only the best Asian restaurant I’ve experienced in Kuwait but also one of the finest I’ve encountered in my travels around the world.

From the moment I entered MEI LI, I was captivated by its elegant yet warm ambiance, blending modern design with subtle Asian influences. The atmosphere is refined yet inviting, setting the perfect stage for an unforgettable culinary journey. However, what truly sets this restaurant apart is not just the exceptional food but the impeccable service that elevates the entire dining experience.

A special mention must go to the outstanding team who made both my visits extraordinary. Ms. Lilis deserves heartfelt gratitude for her genuine warmth, attentiveness, and remarkable ability to anticipate every need. She went above and beyond to ensure my time at MEI LI was memorable. Ms. Ni Made and Mr. Nabil also contributed significantly to my experience, embodying the same level of care and professionalism that reflects the restaurant’s high standards. The team’s passion and dedication truly enhanced my appreciation of the place.

Every dish at MEI LI is crafted with precision and care, delivering flavors that are both authentic and innovative. The food doesn’t just satisfy your taste buds; it takes you on a journey of complex flavors, textures, and presentations. Here are the dishes that stood out for me and are highly recommended:

Vegetable Spring Rolls: These were a delightful start to the meal. The rolls were perfectly crispy on the outside, with a warm, flavorful vegetable filling that was light yet satisfying.

Korean Chicken: The Korean chicken was a burst of bold flavors, balancing sweetness and spice in a way that was utterly addictive.

Shredded Crab Crispy Rice: This dish was an absolute revelation. The crispy rice provided a wonderful contrast to the rich, flavorful shredded crab. It was a perfect harmony of texture and taste.

Beef Ribs Uramaki: A creative twist on sushi, the beef ribs uramaki were an explosion of flavors. The beef paired beautifully with the rice, creating a dish that was as visually stunning as it was delicious.

Pan-Fried Shanghai Dumplings: These dumplings were perfection, with a savory filling that was packed with flavor. They were a comforting and satisfying addition to the meal.

I was looking forward to try this place, as I am a big fan of asian cuisines... but turned out very disappointing at the end. (Details below)

First off, freindly staff minus the arrogant attitude from the hostess. The menu looked promising and appetizing... i appreciate dim sum selection... and the ambiance is nice.

Attached is a photo of the bill that shows everything we ordered... the price is exaggerated, especially when comparing it with the quality of food. I hate to do this, but everything we ordered was not to the standard i expected... flavors were off, all items that had chicken smelled and tasted funky (fear of salmonella kicked in) the salads were soya sauce flavored ... AND THE MOST DISAPPOINTING part of all the dim sum/ dumpling were NOT fresh!!! That was an insult, anyone want to argue this better have tasted real dim sum.

The only good item in the whole menu was the duck ( though I would challenge them on calling it peking duck ... its just crispy duck)... the pancakes though are a bit thick like a tortilla which I did not like.

Overall experience... very pretentious, over-priced and not up to the standards that they think they are holding. I would not go there again unless food quality changes, then ill give it another try.

MEI LI Restaurant is a luxury restaurant that has high service standards. The place is very comfortable, has several varied dining tables. It is suitable for all situations, both formal and casual. The unique and artistic decoration makes all the guests who come feel at home eating for a long time. I came with my family for dinner. All the menus served, starting from the appetizer menu, main menu and dessert, are very tasty and delicious. And most importantly the service is very satisfying. Team work is very good and professional. Everyone gave us maximum attention, from the hostess, waitrist/waitress, supervisor, chef, team Leader and director, gave us excellent attention. I would like to extend my special thanks to Arline (waitress), Aji (sous chef), Britika (hostess), David (team leader), Marwan (supervisor) and Mr. Irvan (Director) for their kinds service and hospitality.
