Just left the "restaurant" horrendously disappointed. I stopped by for a quick bite in-between flights, but I should have just rather starved.
I ordered a simple cheese-burger which had seemed decent while walking by other tables for 16 euros. I asked twice for it not to have the "special mushroom sauce" as they often don't sit quite well with me.
The hamburger finally arrived, looking strikingly worse than what it had seemed from afar (it was clearly a supermarket premade hamburger and quite a dry one at that), and of course, with sauce. I approached the waitress who had served it to me to mention the minor sauce detail, but she did not seem to understand what the problem was.
After a while, she went to talk to the lady in charge of the kitchen, were a moderate screaming match ensued. Then the waitress went to talk to the cashier guy I had placed the order with, leaving me standing, hamburger plate in hand, no explanation and next to a clearly displeased chef.
She eventually came back, had another bout with the chef, which I had no trouble understanding despite not speaking a word of Latvian), and finally took the plate from my hands.
I sat back on the table, and when the hamburger came back, it was the exact same hamburger, with half the bottom missing. They kitchen had literally removed everything underneath the meat and simply slapped a new piece of bread on it.
I wouldn't have had any issues with getting the same hamburger, but having paid 16 euros for a premade hamburger and still having remnants of the sauce and now missing the tomato, lettuce and onions seemed too much.
I went to talk to the cashier guy who seemed to be more comfortable with English, and he then approached the kitchen. After another round of very clear cursing and screaming, they took the hamburger in, threw some veggie slices in-between the buns and gave it back.
I wasn't going to keep arguing about this, so I just digged in. The meet as I had foreseen was very dry, almost as if cooked on a different day, and by now the meal wasn't even warm. Nothing like a sad 2-time refurbished hamburger and cold french fries to enjoy a layover.
As I am writing this, I am starting to get an unsettled stomach. Will most definitely never eat there again, and strongly advice any other travellers to think twice before falling for...
Read moreOne of the horrible places you can visit, I bothered to work there, specially getting a job, I decided to find out everything as it is, the thighs in which you fall the appliances have never been washed in several months, they also throw tips there, but without disinfection, the same appliances, the products are often spoiled, the dates are changed and reglued to new ones, I would not advise you to take cakes and bakes products at all, since the chance of poisoning is huge, there is a lot of evidence that, that their products are of poor quality, Rotten goods are changed by dates, unsanitary conditions and staff discrimination, if you speak with an accent or do not know Latvian, respect for you will be lower and worse attitude, at work they often speak Russian and very loudly, swear in the middle of the hall, an incident was also revealed when a girl threw a tray right on the next table. If you suddenly come to work, but know that if you get sick, you can be fired, the proof as well as all the papers are available, one of the most terrible places I have come across, a big and respectful request to change the female supervisor as well as aggressive staff, in courtesy the comment...
Read moreMixed feelings about this. Its been my frequent stay at Riga airport for years, thanks for the beer and easy pub / fingerfood. On the other hand as a restaurateur myself I pay attention in many things.. This place needs an enthusiastic chef who has a word in putting the menu in order. Now it looks like someone else has decided what they want to offer. The breakfast especially was a joke in itself and went where the fence is at the lowest.. Taps would benefit from a changing tap, why not try some trendy NEIPA or sour / add a tap or two. Heineken + couple of locals at the moment. Also as it goes under a sports theme / easy approach, I find it a bit funny to see that (obvious) shift manager has to run around in a suit. Man, that's 90's and definitely no sports bar. With some changes this could be a gem. Now as it is, the only reason why it is alive is the location. It would not survive the competition, definitely no. I'm struggling between 2 and 3 stars and will still give it a 3, thanks for the consistency, eventhough we are on a line that really could be pushed forward if they...
