Osta, Restorāns ar skatu — Restaurant in Riga

Parking available on side of the nearby road. The place itself looks nice and is well situated near the river with sights towards Riga. Our group consisted of few couples and 2 babies. Food: We ordered mains and desserts. The beef steak was requested medium-rare, deliverd well done. Duck breast also was overcooked for some of the orders. Slow cooked beef checks should not be on the menu, they are barely cooked and not soft, some were even chewy. Side however were ok, nothing exceptional but atleast passable. Desserts were 50/50 cream brule nice and we'll set, same for panacota yet a bit too sweet, lava cake however was more like bread cookie with hardly any melting when cut open. Serivce: The staff is polite however is polite alone enough? Service was very slow. 2 waitreses for 3 tables at time we saw noone for good 5 min. Our dishes were missing elements and were given to wrong people at the table. Including some orders missed all together. Also we had to ask few times for drinks until it finally registered with the staff. Once departing we could hear swearing in the kitchen through and open window about one of the customers that sat near us, not nice to say the least.

I visited “Osta” for a brunch with friends and family. Upon arrival we couldn’t figure out the parking situation, because the parking lot was locked, but parking on the street felt somehow illegal. When we entered the restaurant, our coats were taken care of, but other than that - almost no service. Had to find our seats ourselves, had to call the waiters to take our drinks’ order, dirty plates stayed on the table for a long time. Could be that it was due to two very big brunch parties happening at the same time, but still. The biggest disappointment was the food. It was really nothing special. And the taste wasn’t there either. When we wanted to take desserts, there were only yoghurts and fruits left. When asked whether there would be refills, the staff just said “no”. Knowing the reputation and placement of this place we had some expectations. Unfortunately, they were not fulfilled. Instead of giving 2 stars, the extra one is for the price. Были в ресторане большой компанией коллег и пробовали меню в рамках ресторанной недели. Остались очень довольны. Закуска из козьего сыра была вне всяких похвал! И оригинальное сочетание вкусов (сам козий зажареный во фритюре - это понятно, свекольный мусс - тоже более-менее понятно, но что было ещё - непонятно, и это прекрасно! И это было очень вкусно!), и подача - всё на высшем уровне! Я вообще очень аккуратна в выборе вкусов и "незнакомое" не ем. К тому же т.к. я сама много и разнообразно готовлю, удивить вкусом меня сложно. Но вот это был тот случай, когда закуска в десятку! Не все ингредиенты я поняла что это. 😊 Осталась заинтригована. Что касается горячего, я выбрала морского черта, он был на четвёрку по пятибальной системе. И тут, пожалуй, никаких вопросов к повару, возможно просто таким оказался продукт, но рыба была жёстковата. Но вот соусы к рыбе были абсолютно восхитительны! И опять я не поняла - из чего они. 😊 Десерт - это было нечто божественное! Задумка, подача, исполнение, вкусы и их сочетание - один из лучших десертов, которые я пробовала в жизни, и которые западают в память. И это не был просто вкусный десерт, это был десерт, который дома ты не приготовишь. Самое главное я получила удовольствие от ресторанной кухни - это то, что отличает хороший ресторан от хорошей домашней кухни. Ostas Restorāns, ваш повар - лучший в Риге! Что ещё добавить по еде... Вино прекрасное. Я заказывала без карты вин, поэтому не скажу на сколько широк выбор. Савиньон был отличным. И он был французский, а не новозеландский. Эспрессо отличный. Добавлю ещё что обслуживание было прекрасным! Нас обслуживал молодой человек - все отлично! Обслуживание ненавязчивое, очень вежливое и с пониманием - такое каким оно должно быть. Вот девушка к нам подходила - без эмоциональная. Вероятно мы её раздражали. В общем и целом у меня осталось очень приятное и позитивное впечатление от посещения.
