We were there last Saturday night (table for three, one couple with child). The photos don't do it justice. The food was the best Chinese, in fact one of the most pleasant experiences I've had dining out en famille. It's a great menu, with options for allergy and intolerance sufferers quite clearly spelled out in parentheses beside each menu option). There were many interesting things on the menu I would love to go back and try for future trips. Just an important note: if you want the whole or half roast duck carved and served to you at your table, you would need to order it in advance. It's well worth it from what I can see from the other diners. They have a superb wine list, as well, plenty to choose from the local Reisling to the more chic expense-account bubbly. We ended up going for something simpler and ordering the sampler meal for two for €76 and the kid's menu for just over a tenner. Be warned, the "sampler menu" is anything but! After being served a delightful sesame-infused noodle salad amuse-bouche, we were served a fantastic soup (mine was hot and sour and exactly how I remember it made in traditional Chinese restaurants back home), a nice little dim sum appetizer, another appetizer with slivers of duck and a couple of crispy imperial rolls and then, the main dish: roast duck confit and Kung Pao chicken (poulet impérial) with steamed white rice on the side. The kid opted for a chicken and rice dish that looked very nice and which, fussy as she is, she finished only half without complaint (it was a large portion, in fairness). She wanted to save up her appetite for the triple ice cream dessert, naturally. We could not finish it! We actually had to ask for take-away containers (which they duly provided, nice sturdy hard re-usable plastic ones placed in a lovely decorated paper bag). We could barely manage the desserts (dairy and mochi ice cream) and finally at the end, and I really love this, a basket of sweet, plump clementines, still with their green leaves. The service was unfailingly polite and attentive, in a very French way, the wine was served in a high hat, over ice, all done in typical Michelin style. We went out for supper expecting a rather mundane 'take-out Asian resto' experience but came back feeling like we just left Heston Blumenthal's Asian venture. The quality of the food is unsurpassed. Delightful crispy duck, sweet, tart, spicy chicken covered in that glorious sauce - a bit gristly at times but lovely nonetheless, with added veg and peanuts. It's not often I give an Asian restaurant five stars but this place more than deserves it. A note about the decor. It's slightly twee and pastiche, with Chinese lanterns, antique Chinese furniture and the like BUT the chairs were WIDE, VERY COMFORTABLE... which is a blessing for people like me, bigger and taller than most, so I felt very comfortable sitting and admiring the couple right next to us enjoying their date. ;-) I hope my constant patter wasn't too distracting! I seemed to have run out of superlatives halfway through the meal and just kept saying "wow, this is amazing" over...
Read moreforth time going to a restaurant in Luxembourg without reservation and on December 30th (should be pretty busy), but we were greated very nicely and found a table in their back room. the worst thing about this place is that we have a finite capacity to ingest food during our stay and so are really sad we couldn't try everything on the menu! This is by far the best Chinese restaurant I've been too. the attention to details in the food preperation is astonishing, and the tastes are out of this world. for the main dishes we tried the imperial chicken and the beef szechuan, both were packed with flavors and totally different tastes and amazing depths of different notes and nutty flavours. the meat was superbly made, soft and almost falling apart in your mouth. I forgot the name of the appetiser but there were a sort of vegetarian dumpling. This is when we knew we were in for a treat. for dessert we got mochi Yuzu and sesame, it took a bit of time to get but, again fantastic. the yuzu is great if you wanna finish with a citrus flavour.
I absolutely recommend this place if you are in the area and looking for a place to eat. the service was also really great and fast and very considerate. the ginger tea there is really strong so if you have a cold, it'll be the right...
Read moreI’ve spent 10 years in China and I’ve been to a few restaurants here in Luxembourg and it feels that for the most part they use the same sauces and condiments for every dish and stir fry it. Le Zai on the other hand has been so far the closest restaurant to authentic Chinese food I’ve been to In Luxembourg. Their small bowl of soup wonton was a throwback to my times in China and their bokchoy with mushrooms was delicious. My wife had noodles and she said her dish was also good (she’s Chinese). We also had Xiaolongbao, and although they weren’t as good as the ones in Shanghai (less soupy) they were reasonable. Overall I recommend this place and I wish more restaurants would give us the option for real authentic Chinese food.
The service was also good...
