TLDR: Very pleasant dining experience, delicious food and friendly restaurant owner. Definitely worth revisit when I go to Kundasang again.

Visited August Kitchen twice during my recent trip to Kundasang, first is dinner on 28-Apr and second is breakfast on 29-Apr.

When my wife and myself decided to try out August Kitchen, we were not expecting much as this restaurant was not on our places to visit. To our surprise, August Kitchen gave us a splendid dining experience.

On 28-Apr, we found August Kitchen by random search and decided to give it a try. The Margherita pizza we ordered was simply delicious, it would be perfect if the crust was crunchier as I like it to be.

We had the chance to chat with the restaurant owner who is a really friendly person. The restaurant uses electric oven to bake their pizza, the owner said. If there is wood-fired pizza oven, their pizza could have been the best I’ve tried.

We tried also a slice of their signature cheese cake, not the best ever but I would still recommend it if one happens to be at Kundasang. I would surely go for it again when I visit Kundasang again in the future.

Knowing from the owner that they have durian cheese cake the next day is the main reason that I visited August Kitchen again on 29-Apr, perhaps it’s destined as our planned breakfast place was closed.

For breakfast, we ordered Sarawak Laksa, Mixed Grilled Plater, latte, hot chocolate and durian cheese cake. Both of us agree that all the foods and drinks are delicious with generous portion.

The restaurant owner has mentioned that he hand picked all the durians used to make cheese cake and this is so delicious! It is a must try!

In the chat with the restaurant owner, the restaurant opened not too long before COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2019. I understand that he has struggled during that hard time when there’s no visitor to Kundasang. I am very glad that they survived and happy to found this hidden gem, I hope their business will thrive and wish to return again to try...

Food Review: A Disappointing Breakfast Experience

I recently visited [AUGUST KITCHEN KUNDASANG] with my family for breakfast, eager to enjoy their English breakfast offerings. We made a reservation in advance and were asked to pre-order our meals an hour before our arrival, which we did. However, our experience was far from satisfactory.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were surprised to find that no food had been prepared, despite our pre-order. We waited for over an hour, only to be served cold turkey as part of the English breakfast. The drinks, which we expected to arrive quickly, were also served late.

What puzzled me even more was the fact that the restaurant was not busy at the time. There were only a few other customers, so I couldn’t understand why the service was so slow. It left me wondering if the food was actually prepared on-site or if it was cooked elsewhere and transported to the restaurant.

Overall, the experience was disappointing, and the cold food, coupled with the long wait, made for an underwhelming start to our day. I hope the restaurant addresses these issues to improve their service for future customers.

I would also like to add my response here: the screenshot between me & the staff.

I appreciate your response, but I still have concerns. As I mentioned, I placed my pre-order around 8 AM, and my family arrived a little after 9 AM. Despite this, the food was only served 40 minutes later, as per your CCTV review.

I understand if that’s considered a reasonable time for you, but the restaurant wasn’t busy, and the food was cold when it finally arrived. We didn’t ask for everything to come out at once, but waiting that long for cold food is disappointing.

I hope this feedback helps you improve, because service like this really impacts the dining experience. Please consider looking into why this happened so it doesn’t repeat with...

My first time coming here and it was on a weekday. First time coming following Waze’s direction we kind of missed the junction to the restaurant as they had no signboard/signage so be more attentive to the location (it’s right next to Strawberry Hotel). When we reached to the restaurant it was not packed as it was a weekday and they had just opened. Food was good in my opinion; we ordered Margherita Pizza, Lamb Chops in blackpepper sauce and Fried Kuey Teow (vegetarian). It was really delicious however on the Fried Kuey Teow it had this sweet flavour which did not really hit my tastebuds right. Maybe of the soy sauce type and brand used. The rest it was all perfect! Great place to chill and look at the glimpse view of the town. Before leaving we were greeted by a cat who followed us around…I’d suggest you to feed it and play with it around before you leave! We also had a chat with the restaurant owner and got to know him. He was a very friendly, talkative dude! Come by to August Kitchen and support this business when you can or in search of a late dinner in Kundasang as they close by 9PM (kitchen closes at 8PM). Kundasang being a place that has almost all shops close down by sunset, this place is one of the restaurants in Kundasang that closes later than that so be sure to come by!
