With the recent demise of the End of the World restaurant due to COVID-19, equally comes the end of the tunnel for years of memories of erratic seafood dinners at this northern most point of the tourist beach belt. The remaining monopoly is at the other side of the fishing village where a wharf has been built for larger vessels as a departure point for trips to Monkey Beach and Pantai Kerachut. The Hakka run restaurant is ironically opposite the Hokkien temple and the local post office in a low cost apartment dwelling. We had picked up some fresh prawns (RM65 per kg) from the old fishing village enclave and hoped this newer establishment will cook it for our dinner. The formidable Hakka lady boss feinted ignorance of an appropriate cooking style and though we finally agreed, I overheard her barking an order to stop its prompt cooking until she was satisfied I had made other substantial orders of her kitchen. She quickly disagreed for me to view her catch of the day with some flimsy excuses, indeed my suspicions were later confirmed with the steamed Red Snapper (RM56) that smelt more than a week old. The accompanying Hokkien fried mee (RM8) was certainly a deliberate misadventure on my part to test out their kitchen, not surprisingly the resulting noodles came in a swill of dark sweet soysauce, nothing even close to the original local recipe. Vengeance was served on our very fresh prawns in a platter of over steamed egg white that was dry and poker faced - a subtle warning not to bring your own fresh catch again next time (if there ever is one). Cooking fee was still RM10 for their poor effort. Paying the bill cashless led to another gripe of her being charged an exorbitant RM2 transaction fee by the bank. Welcome to another small minded Penangite, if only she paid more attention to food quality than...

Every dish we ordered taste so great and fresh! We had the following - Crab Bee Hoon There’s two styles both are yummy soup version: v tasty broth, so yummy with the thick bee hoon dry bee hoon version: imagine pig trotter bee hoon style, but now the bee hoon soak in all the goodness of the crab 🦀. Super shiok the crabs are all so fresh as well, every piece came out super firm and sweet

Salted egg sotong soft, springy and can taste the freshness unlike some people who might sometimes over cook sotong that it become rubbery, definitely not this! the salted egg seems to be prepared on their own, it tastes v homely, not the kind that restaurant usually use those ready made salted egg powder.

Bamboo Clams even Putien restaurant also cannot fight big and fresh, and the way they cook it is soooo oiishii the way they cook also just nice, never over cook, so you can taste the juiciness with every bite

Sweet and sour pork they took the effort to cut it into equally bite size pieces all are cooked just nice, it’s slightly on the softer side, but I love it because we ordered for our toddler and he enjoyed it so much

To top it off, the dishes were all very large portion and so reasonably priced.

So we highly recommended to come here if you are at Penang~ have been there twice, once during lunch and once during dinner. Atmosphere is good, cos they would even have hydration cooler so you wouldn’t feel hot. At night, the fans are more than sufficient to let you have a great meal comfortably.

The owners were super kind too, knowing that we got stuck because we couldn’t get a grab at night they also rendered help to ensure we got back safely. We’re...

During our stay at the Angsana Teluk Bahang, we opted for a nearby Chinese restaurant for dinner. The selection was rather limited, with only a couple of options available. We chose to dine at Tai Tong Seafood Restaurant.

We ordered Claypot Curry Shrimps, Steamed Fish, Black Pepper Fried Squid, Claypot Tofu, and Stir-Fried Sweet Potato Leaves. The Claypot Curry Shrimps stood out as particularly unique. The dish had a flavour profile reminiscent of Tom Yum, being both hot and sour. The broth paired excellently with white rice.

The Steamed Fish was also commendable. The fish was fresh and not overcooked. The Black Pepper Fried Squid, however, fell slightly short of expectations. While the taste was acceptable, it lacked the robust black pepper kick we anticipated.

The Claypot Tofu was somewhat underwhelming. Despite being packed with various ingredients, it had a rather bland taste. The Stir-Fried Sweet Potato Leaves was a simple yet enjoyable addition to our meal.

The total bill amounted to approximately RM200, which we found to be quite reasonable given the quality and quantity of the food. Despite the overall great taste of the dishes, the dining experience was marred by a lack of dedicated parking space, forcing us to park by the roadside. Additionally, the presence of flies around our table detracted from the otherwise...
