Visiting Batu Ferringhi is pleasant but expensive for a backpacker. Ali's Motel was a good fit for me to explore this northern side of the island on a budget. It's right next to the Rapid Penang station so you can take the 101 or 102 into Batu Ferringhi for 1.40 ringgit.||||Pros: Good Wifi (even reached the dorm room). Provided towel and small bar of soap. Free drinking water. Staff was very accommodating.||||Cons: Toilet tank pressure is low. Not the cleanest place. Right on the main road so it's quite loud in the public space; in the dorm, noise level wasn't that bad. My bed was ridiculously squeaky.
