My recent work trip to JB prompted me to try at least one café in the area. I was up in UTM and noticed that most of the cafés are located close to the city center, which makes sense since that’s where the main crowd is. So, I had to strategically choose one that wasn't too far from Skudai Airport, as I needed to catch a flight later. I called two of my students and headed to a small café outside JB city center.
The café was nicely decorated and peaceful; I loved the ambiance. We ordered a Matcha Latte, a Macchiato, and an Iced Chocolate. The boys went for the Smoked Duck Pasta and Chicken Karaage, while the lady opted for the fluffy Japanese Pancake. It didn't take long before our orders arrived. The Matcha Latte could have been better. The matcha was at the bottom of the glass, with the milk on top, which seemed a bit off to me. It didn't look great in pictures, haha. The taste was ok.
The pasta was good, with lots of herbs and a decent amount of olive oil, but perhaps just a bit too little smoked duck. The chicken karaage was flavorful and crispy, but it was missing that extra bit of awesomeness. The pancake was really fluffy and probably the star of the show that day. It came with two fluffy pieces, one banana, and a few cut strawberries. The portion was okay, topped with a big dollop of cream, a sprinkle of Biscoff crumble, and a touch of maple syrup. It was delightful, though it could have used a bit more acidity, perhaps from some acidic fruits, to balance the rich flavors.
Overall, it was a great experience, and I managed to catch up with my students. Man, I wish I had more time in JB. If you're around, do hit this...
Read moreFirst of all, I want to say it makes me quite sad to give such a poor review for this place, because it looked so promising and the other reviews looked so good. The cafe was very clean with a lovely ambience. It was beautiful and minimalistic and they also have a very cute cafe cat inside. I was the only customer during lunch hour. The lady staff was very pleasant. But the male staff there was quite curt and unfriendly. I made my order, and you need to pay for the food upon ordering as well. They don't take card, only QRpay or cash. I ordered a chicken karaage omurice japanese curry, and spicy corn ribs with sour cream dip. And I am very sad to report that both were not very good. There was very little curry sauce served with the rice, and it was certainly a bit dry. The omurice egg was this and a little bit overcooked, not fluffy or light. Just felt like a normal omelette. Really not what I expect for a japanese curry rice dish. Just tasted cheap and watered down. Chicken portions were also small. The corn ribs that arrived looked totally different from the picture in the menu. It just looked like normal cooked corn with a dusting of chilli powder. Also it did not come with a sour cream dip, unlike indicated on the menu. So unfortunately there will not be a 2nd visit. What a shame because it seemed like such a...
Read moreWe had an amazing experience at the latte art workshop with Vivian! Despite only giving her one day's notice, she made it happen and went above and beyond. She was incredibly patient throughout the entire session, guiding us step by step while keeping us fully engaged with her high energy and endless encouragement. What stood out the most was her dedication to ensuring we really got the hang of it, she kept pushing us to do more rounds and gave us feedbacks on how to improve, even after the shop had closed! Vivian not only shared her knowledge of the techniques but also gave us great insights into the science behind the art, which really deepened our understanding. To top it off, she even printed beautiful certificates for us to remember the experience! I couldn’t thank her enough for making this birthday surprise for my boyfriend so memorable. Her passion for coffee is contagious, and we left feeling so much more confident in our latte art skills. Highly recommend this workshop for anyone looking to learn and have fun at...
