It pays to be chatty sometimes - during a Grab ride I took from Klang - PJ, I chatted up the young friendly driver. During our conversation, he recommended a restaurant which he frequented in Klang. "They serve the best gu lou yuk in ice" he said that piqued my interest.
There were more than 10 of us going all the way to Klang just to have lunch here one good Saturday. Taking up 4 shoplots, they even have private rooms with karaoke. Service was attentive
◾Signature Sweet & Sour Pork in Ice or 冰鎮咕咾肉 - on top of the crispy-on-the-outside, soft & chewy-on-the-inside deep fried meat, the difference maker was the addition of kumquat skin in the dish. I had my share of this dish and this was probably the best so far! Must order! ◾Indonesian style curry seafood was addictive, and I could finish the gravy alone with few bowls of rice - if not for my waistline 🥲 ◾Deep fried giant squid was deep fried to perfection and didn't feel rubbery at all. Timing is everything. ◾Clams in superior soup had cili padi making it spicy but oh so delicious with the fresh lala. ◾Braised pork trotter with fish maw & mushroom came boiling in the claypot but that didn't stop everyone from polishing the whole dish in matter of minutes. ◾Beancurd in pumpkin sauce might not be the best gravy, however I love the small prawns. ◾Claypot sweet potato leaves - also came in spicy style (cili padi). Should have asked them to omit the cili because kids couldn't take spicy. ◾Hong Kong century eggs got the thumbs up from those who had it due to the lava-like yolk.
Oh yes, the dishes were served not long after placing order.. making them one of the fastest speed in cooking in Klang Valley. Luckily the taste was also...
Read moreWe ordered prawn noodle (sang har Mee). In the menu everything was written in English, 2 rows of prices small (rm10) and big (rm20). Except in chinese later we found out it meant market price (without further elaboration) So we called d waiter and person behind counter came. We wanted to clarify the price before ordering. He said yes small is rm10 n big rm20 without explaining further. So we assumed ok maybe it's just little prawns like your usual fried noodle. When it came it had a slightly bigger than usual prawn. So we called another lady, actually how much is this noodle? Then only she said, oh... It's RM68 coz of the prawn it's 400gm and cost rm16.80/100gm. Then we ask them why isn't it mentioned in the menu and why didn't the guy mention it when we asked him. She said,it's like that wan. Then we ask her if the prawn was really 400gm as it was smaller than our dining spoon size. We had this noodle before at getting sempah n the prawn was much bigger n definitely taste better for rm48. So we felt this...
Read moreOverall the food was not too bad. Tried their signature dish which was cold sweet sour pork, served on ice (photo attached). Not used to eating cold sweet sour pork so it's not to my liking.
But, the staff should improve in cleaning the tables gently. I was at the next table when they were clearing the other table. It felt like the plates and bowls were either flying into the bucket or the staff there are generally angry and they are just throwing it in. As a result, it was really noisy and unpleasant to be near there. And they (persons who take orders, deliver food and collect money) don't smile, I guess they were tired.
Price wise, I feel it's a bit too expensive as the other food that we ordered was not so special. Food ordered for 8 pax was: Cold sweet sour pork Hot plate toufoo Ying yang Kai lan Belacan 4 types beans Mongolian chicken White rice - 7 bowls Chinese tea Total...
