We decided to try the place since it seemed to have generally good reviews and to draw in a good crowd. Perhaps it was simply the dishes I ordered, but everything ranged from mediocre to outright bad. The chicken and fish maw soup, which was recommended to us and apparently sold out each day, had traditional, savory ingredients like dried scallops (conpoy) and Chinese (jinhua) ham, yet the soup itself was surprisingly bland and the piece of chicken breast stringy and tasteless. As for the deep-fried pork belly with garlic, it was an interesting and flavorful combination, but serving the papery, unpeeled garlic cloves together with the pork was ill-advised. The salted egg mantis prawns were so densely breaded and overcooked that the dish might as well have been reheated to oblivion in the microwave. This is a far cry from the crispy yet tender texture you'd expect to find at a good tai chow restaurant. Also, the dish tasted of neither salted egg nor mantis prawns, but plain salted flour. It's an insult to Cantonese cuisine, to be honest. As for the bill, prices were a little on the high side, but the portions were generous. That said, I appreciate the restaurant's creativity when it comes to food (which you really can't say about most Malaysian Chinese restaurants)--for example, I liked the unconventional "tidbits" starter of pickled guava. So, I'm open-minded to the idea that maybe I'd simply caught the restaurant on a bad day. But this particular experience...
Read moreChinese cuisine restaurant - non halal. I would recommend to call up and reserve a table if you & your family wants to dine in especially on weekends. As a regular diner here it is always full house on weekends. If you walk in, probably need to wait very long for a table. They own the front and back lot of the restaurant, may need to walk at the back road if they place your table at the 2nd lot (back - just behind the main lot ). Both places are usually packed as well 😅
Place clean & bright, very friendly staffs. Very experienced as well, never gets our orders wrong despite the busy environment. Thumbs up 👍 Food need to wait about 15-20 minutes but worth the wait. No doubt this restaurant is super packed. Price wise is ok if you don’t order the double boiled chicken soup. The soup is expensive but super super 🤤 warms your tummy immediately.
Highly recommended their signature claypot curry fish head. Very rich creamy and fragrant. Spicy but addictive, definitely a rice thief. Their seafood is delicious. Braised pork stew yummy as well. All dishes were on spot not a single bad dish. Asam fish , marmite pork ribs are also a must have. Definitely highly recommended...
