Mat Teh Ikan Bakar in Datuk Keramat is a place that carries the essence of true Malay cooking, centered around the delightful simplicity of ikan bakar. This Halal restaurant is where one should head to for a satisfying lunch under the Malaysian sun. The selection of grilled fish is commendable, offering kembong, cencaru, pari, tilapia, siakap, and terubuk, but the pari and terubuk come highly recommended for their exceptional taste.
The menu here is straightforward yet fulfilling—white rice served with ikan bakar, air asam, ulam sambal belacan, and a side of chicken soup that completes the meal. The food quality is remarkable, every bite reflecting the rich flavors of freshly grilled fish paired with traditional condiments. Whether you choose to dine in or take out, the experience remains memorable. The prices, although based on the type of fish, are fair, making it affordable yet worthy of the satisfaction it brings.
Mat Teh Ikan Bakar does not boast fancy interiors or air-conditioning, but its charm lies in its authentic, unpretentious atmosphere. The service is commendable, with the staff always smiling, friendly, and helpful, ensuring each guest feels welcomed. Despite the roadside parking, which can be tricky at times, the presence of RELA personnel helps manage the traffic, making the experience more bearable.
However, a visit during the peak lunch hour might require patience, as the long queues are testament to the restaurant’s popularity. A 30-minute wait might be the norm, but it’s worth it. For a smoother experience, it's wise to arrive before or after the lunch crowd. Despite the minor inconveniences, Mat Teh Ikan Bakar remains a landmark in Datuk Keramat, a place where flavors speak louder than...
Read moreWhat can I say foodies...This was one of my favorite joints to eat ikan bakar in Kuala Lumpur. Just probably one of the most delicious compared to the famous Jalan Belamy !! 😅 Well I mean taste are subjective right ? 😅😅 Frankly, nothing extra ordinary abt the grilled fish...Plain and flat tumeric and salt marinated fishes grilled to perfection over 2 extra-large metal tables with charcoal burning and smoke all over the place....BUT the dipping sauce is something else. Prepared with tamarind sauce with lotsa onion and chopped green chilli in it, will burn your mouth every time u dips the fish meat in it. Yup you guess right, tears of joy of deliciousness will be running from your eyes and noses 🤣🤣🥵🥵🥵🥵🤣🤣🤣🤣 One thing to be sure, for if you're going on weekdays, it is advisable to be there before 12.30 pm just before the peak hours or you'll have to stand in que for a minimum of 20 min, depends. Over the weekend's hmmmm, it is advisable to reach this place before 12.00 pm 😎 That was all ya'll...As usual, the best is to go there n try it all yourself. Happy weekemd and dont forget to visit my TT(@jarre_83) n youtube (sayArichannel). Thank you for supporting...
Read moreMat Teh Ikan Bakar is hands down one of the best spots to satisfy cravings for authentic local flavors. The grilled fish is always fresh and cooked to perfection, but what really stood out for me were the side dishes. Their fish curry and asam pedas are superb – rich, spicy, and packed with flavor that keeps you going back for another bite.
The air masam is fiery and addictive, a perfect pairing with the fresh ikan bakar. I also loved the comforting chicken feet soup, which was full of depth and spice, just the way it should be. To balance out the heat, there’s a good spread of ulams that add freshness to the meal. And of course, the mango juice is a must-try – sweet, refreshing, and the perfect cooler after all that spice.
Overall, Mat Teh Ikan Bakar is a gem for anyone who loves bold flavors and hearty local dishes. Highly recommended if you’re after a truly satisfying...
