Restoran 83 Pokok Assam — Restaurant in Perak

We made a booking for 3 pax thru WhatsApp and the lady was very kind and patient to assist us. However, when we reached there, we were welcomed by an auntie who said "no more seats, no more seats, need to book first" without asking us if we have made a reservation.

We were brought to our table with 5 chairs and a stool. As it's a rainy day and our umbrella doesn't have a handle, we placed it on the chair. The auntie came, "eh how many pax do you have? We don't have enough chairs", as if reprimanding that we took extra chairs. Then she took the chairs and stool away and placed them at the next EMPTY table. The next two tables were empty for the whole dinner.

This is our second visit to Restoran 83 Pokok Assam for dinner. This restaurant is located in the residential area and not too far from Taiping town. We chose to sit comfortably indoor where it’s cooler with air-conditioned and less noisy. We ordered a few dishes like Stir Fry Bitter Gourd Chicken, Minced Ginger Steamed Fish, Salted Egg Mantis Prawns, Steamed Tilapia Fish, Stir Fry Sambal Potato Leaves, Claypot Mixed Vegetables & Tofu and Black Pepper Pork with Mixed Vegetables. A spacious local tzi-char with both indoor (AC) and outdoor (ceiling fan) seatings; round table with lazy-susan. Servers are prompt in taking order, but dishes being served are a bit slow. However, once ready, it’s all in-one-go.

Ventilation is very poor, especially for outdoor dining despite ceiling fan. Perhaps, due to its kitchen cooker hood exhaust duct system (improvement needed). I also dislike the karaoke at the nearby local restaurant (absolutely annoying)!
