Come and enjoy a la carte chinese cooking non halal. One of the best Chinese restaurant in Slim River town. Double Happiness or Twin Happiness. Cater for family, groups and even marriage dinner or lunch. If alone you may try the "wat tan hor"= cantonese noodles equally good, thumbs up. With much respect, no offence if you have tasted the Sarawak " wat tan hor" then you will find a great difference here. You may yearn for another plate. They also serve one of the best fried rice i have ever tasted. Other than that their steam fish is delicious whether Patin ( Pat So Kone ) or Tilapia or grouper. The chef is excellent here. Hot Chinese tea in pot will be a great accompaniment for the food. It washes away the oil in your system. A variety of Chinese tea is served here like Chrysantenum, KokPo, Ti kuanyin, Aulong etc. The price in Slim River, Perak is even cheaper than Dengkil Selangir an equally small town or village . Read moreI've been to this restaurant a couple of times in the past, and it seems to have quite a reputation in the area. This time, a friend brought me here again, reaffirming its popularity.
The food is undeniably tasty, and one dish that stood out for me was the 'Big Head Prawn' steamed with egg. The steamed egg was a revelation; it absorbed the essence of the prawns, making it incredibly delicious. I also recalled from a previous visit that the fish stomach dish was pretty good, showcasing their culinary skills.
During this visit, we tried a variety of dishes, including vegetables and stir-fried noodles, and they all hit the mark in terms of flavor and quality.
However, there's a downside worth mentioning - cleanliness. Unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. The pathway to the toilet leads you through the kitchen, and you can't escape the strong smell of fish along the way. It was quite unpleasant and took away from the overall dining experience. The rest of the restaurant's cleanliness was just passable, which was a bit disappointing.
While I might consider revisiting because of the delicious food, I'll likely explore other options in the area first. Hopefully, they can address the cleanliness issue...
Read moreA superb restaurant in this little town of Slim River, it is confusingly named as some signboards state Restaurant Double Happiness and others, Restaurant Twin Happiness. Regardless, the food is so excellent they could change their names a few more times and we wouldn’t be perturbed.
The first dishes that got wiped out were the steamed egg, and the deer meat. We also had kang kong with a small amount of chili and some really lovely petai. Without a doubt the main attraction was the noodles with river prawn- very moreish indeed!
We enjoyed this with pu’er tea for the grownups and coke for the kids. Service was prompt and we felt very relaxed in the open air seating. Toilets are available and adequate.
Planning to visit again to try the other...
