I’d rate this place 3.5 stars. The service is excellent—everyone is polite and friendly. We called in advance to reserve a Salt-Baked Chicken, and the process was seamless. Upon arrival, you simply provide the last four digits of your phone number, and they’ll promptly serve the chicken at your table (or package it for takeaway if you prefer). We ordered a few additional dishes: Pork with Yam and a vegetable dish (Ba-Gu Vegi). We wanted to try the spring rolls as well, but unfortunately, they were out of stock. So, we settled for just three dishes this time.

The vegetable dish was delicious, and we finished it all. However, the Pork with Yam fell short of our expectations. Some pieces of pork were so tough they were nearly impossible to chew. I suspect the wrapping may have burst during cooking, causing the front and back portions to become overcooked. Hopefully, the staff noticed the leftovers and will address this issue.

The Salt-Baked Chicken, on the other hand, was flavorful and aromatic. They used a generous amount of ginger sauce, which made it more appealing. Midway through, we did find it a bit too spicy, but we still enjoyed it overall.

The shop is quite small, with only around seven tables, so it’s best to arrive early to avoid waiting. The Salt-Baked Chicken is cooked over a wood fire right in front of the shop, which adds to the nostalgic ambiance and makes for great photos. However, the smoke from the fire does linger. After sitting there for a meal, your hair and clothes will carry the smoky scent, so everyone will know you visited...

I just heard of complaints about this shop but i dont know the details and i was not there. I was told that the chicken wasnt properly cooked. Of all my prior experience here (i always pre order, collect, and go), the salted chicken were all nice, ofcourse, properly cooked yet remain so tender and juicy.

I always had kampung chicken. Though lesser meat, but taste always good.

As usual, salted chicken requires chicken to be wrap up properly, place in a huge wok covered with coarse salt. They also cook their wok above stove and fire up by using chopped wood. I dont know what kind of wood, but it always bring a very nice fragrance. Not ordinary charcoal.

Opening up the packed chicken had always been satisfying. I would separate the drumsticks, and then pour out the fillings from within the ribs (ginger paste). Meat are usually already very tender, bones are easy to break. I dont mind licking from every bone for all remainders left...

Well priced, delicious food! Service - suggest that you have a rough idea before you order and ask only a few key clarifying questions. Food was delivered very promptly once the order is in.

Food - everything we tried was delicious. The yam on the yam and pork was a winner, Sayur paku with salted egg was a different but lovely change, petai was well cooked and balanced - crunchy, not overly stinky and the sambal just blended well with it, and the handmade sausages - a little dry, but the pork lining used to encase the sausages gave it a nice crunch. We packed two chickens to go, ordered in advance. Steamed it up at home and it was still good - kampung chicken stuffed full of ginger, sesame oil and salt, with a nice wood smokey flavour. We made porridge with the leftover bits!

Will definitely stop by again...

My opinion towards this village seating environment but city$rate Chinese restaurant comfortably hid in the small town of Sungkai, Perak, the chicken is too dry when the paper wrapper was removed and chopped for serving. The restaurant owner should have found that the correct way of wrapping is using aluminium foil to lock the wonderful 👍 and awesome juice and aroma from escaping, save for the tenderness that can be preserved accordingly. One more thing, the demand seems greater than the supply, this is because of the cooking method depend on traditional wood burning speed 🤪, my suggestion is if more woks added, then extra output of chickens can be available. The only wok as I can see now has limited numbers of birds 🐔 they found difficult to send to the tables every time.
