Yup, I'm doing that tourist thing... Haha. A few reasons why I ended up here: (1) I was already driving along the west coast via route 5, (2) mui choy bao is uncommon in Singapore, let alone those that are delicious, and (3) the wife likes mui choy.

The guy who took our order was a young chap, and while he's not particularly friendly or helpful, he wasn't rude to us. Since we're tourists and we didn't know what's good to have, we ended up buying 1 each from the top row of the menu (shen rou, cha sao, mei cai, vegetable), as well as the "new item" the ikan bilis bao.

The place is pick-up-and-go, so there isn't any seating available. Just as well Kwo Zha B is nearby - the laoban (boss-owner) allowed us to eat the baos with the drinks we ordered.

As with some of the comments from other reviewers, I also thought the filling was quite stingy. Price-wise I cannot complain because where I come from things are way more expensive. Besides, I happen to really like kosong baos (the taste and texture of Malaysia's baos beat Singapore's), so the filling is just a bonus to me.

The best 2 items are the mui choy bao and the ikan bilis bao. I lack the vocabulary to describe the taste sensation, so I'll just say that they are both delicious, both the filling as well as the bun itself. I cannot give 5-stars because the filling isn't generous - it's like how McDonald's patties have shrunk over the years: you just taste the filling rather than eat it heartily.

The vegetable bao is pretty good, but nothing worth driving so far out of the way to get. The pork bao (shen rou bao) is decent, but I have had better in Johor (tastier and more generous). The char siew bao is disappointing.

In the unlikely event that I ever pass through Tanjong Sepat again, I will just get the mui choy and ikan bilis baos. And maybe buy some tidbits from the friendly aunty directly across the shop.

Side-note to the bao connoisseurs, I have no qualms eating the skin... They all taste good and I don't eat enough to get heartburn (from indigestion). My wife, however, prefers peeling the skin because she's my...

It was for the very first time I had bought cold (not frozen!) pau which were not ready to eat! There was no warm pau on sales when the shop was opened for business on a busy morning. They had used pieces of red inked printed paper at the base of their pau for branding. Not at all a good idea because the pau were stained by the red ink in its oily condition. Has the red ink been verified by our Pharmacy for being safe in food contact to the public?? 打印在纸上的红色素安全吗? I hated the arrogant and indifferent attitude I was treated at the shop. Taste wise, over rated and nothing special! Won’t...

This popular spot is well-known for its pao and local coffee (kopi).

This is my 3rd time trying their pao in order to give accurate rating. Frankly speaking, the pao still has a noticeable doughy smell, suggesting it wasn’t properly fermented. Compared to the one from TITI, the pao from Hawker Pao Shop has a texture more similar to bread, which I personally prefer.

KH Guide & Rating: • Accessibility: 4/5 (Parking available behind the shop) • Cleanliness: 3.5/5 • Ambience: 3/5 • Food Quality: 3/5 (Coffee is average) • Pricing: 3.5/5 • Service: 3.5/5 • Would visit...

Traditional hand made Teochew pau. Have been selling here for many years. Don't expect the pau are steaming hot because they are mostly for take away. Most of the helpers are ladies and they are relatives. They are very friendly and if you can communicate with them in Teochew even better. Popular pau are "MuiChoi" pickled veggie pau, "SangYok" pork pau and the veggie pau. Next to the shop there are local stalls selling local coffee, fried prawn cracker and local fruits.
