Asam Pedas London — Restaurant in Selayang Municipal Council

As someone who enjoys Malaysian cuisine, I’d say the food here is just average — nothing particularly special. You can easily find similar dishes at other more affordable restaurants. The asam pedas and the daging salai masak lemak was so-so. Honestly, I feel like this place is a bit overhyped, mostly because it’s already an established brand.

From what I know behind the scenes, it seems like they invest a lot into influencer marketing and other things that don’t really add value to the actual dining experience. Sadly, I’ve also heard that the staff aren’t always treated well — some have to work overtime, get contacted outside working hours, even on weekends.

If you really want to be a successful business owner, I believe it starts with taking care of your staff and ensuring the food quality is consistent. Only then should you focus on PR, branding, and influencer marketing.

I wld hv given 4 stars but pls read on. D telur (Eng: egg) mayung dish is sour n spicy, cooked in a mixture of lemongrass n lady's fingers n probably other spices, stirred until d gravy-like that actually tasted n felt like... Fish!! Maybe it's my taste buds but that's my take. I seriously tot it was fish. Interesting dish. Drinks, I ordered sirap limau (lime syrup), but was flattish. Price of dish at RM17, on d high side 4 such ingredients. But worse of all: d papadam had a hair on it!!! That cost them 2 stars as I believe hygiene n cleanliness shd take priority. Unique asam pedas. Got apple in it. Me no likey. It's not not delicious, just different than what I used to have in Melaka and Johor. One of the fish that we got is also not fresh. The Ikan Bakar though, is amazing. The paste for it is generous and packs a delicious punch. The variety of sauces they offer for the ikan bakar is also good.
