I really like their name - Nice Soup Gang or in Cantonese, 靓汤一族 - I was raised in a soup-loving family from young. Back then few families were living together under one roof and we had a communal table where we would eat together. One huge pot of soup would definitely be waiting for us.
Heard nice things about this restaurant and it didn't make me think twice about coming - especially when they have soup in the menu. Their old clocks collection was quite impressive - those who live long enough would know all the shapes and sizes displayed on the wall.
◾Soup - Double boiled cordicep flower with pork ribs soup; double boiled fish maw with chicken soup were great! They didn't skimp on the ingredients and cooking time was definitely long enough to extract maximum flavours out. ◾Fried Cumi-cumi With Sauces - crunchy with sweet and a bit soury making it an appetizing snack. ◾Baked oysters with minced garlic and dong fen using fairly huge American oysters. ◾(Order this!) Ginger Paste Fried Kampung Ma Cao Chicken was different from the usual steam chicken. Instead they stir fried the poultry with the ginger paste for that dish packed with wok hei. ◾Crispy Fried Chicken with Chinese Sauce could be alternative to those who don't like steam. The tenderness was next level. ◾Olive Oil Fried Iberico Pork Collar was a stuff of quality man. Oozing the aroma of Iberico fat, every bite of the meat called for red wine (which I did!) ◾Dark Garlic Fried Pork Belly - apparently one of their bestseller but somehow I didn't prefer this. ◾Pan fried threadfin (ma yao) with soy sauce had seafood lovers heaping praise. Perfectly cooked with tasty light soy sauce. ◾Seafood fried rice with crispy white baits made me couldn't resist to steal a few scoops although I shouldn't be eating rice. ◾Fu Yung Egg. ◾Vegetable - be it stir fried potato leaves or stir fried HK choi sam with pork lard (yes you read it right!), both were equally delicious. ◾ Dessert: Mango pomelo sago
Note: Reservation is a must on weekend as everyone made their way here in droves. I'd seen many had been turned away or made to wait until a table...
Read moreWorst service I ever visited. Me and family made prior booking for the crab roe porridge and crab noddles + other commonly available ala carte dishes The crab roe porridge came about after some dishes came. We finished all that and the kid were all waiting for more to come. Unfortunately we waited for 30 minutes plus repeately reminding them about the noddles. It never did came. We had enough of waiting. We asked for the bill. Surprised and Shock! We were charged for the cuttlery. Those bowls, sauce plate, plates, spoons and chopstick were all chargeable at RM1.00 each set. They tried to slip it into the bill. Putting the item in the middle of the list hoping we did not notice. When approach the cashier has the audacity to say this are for staff's tips. Firstly, we were not pre-informed of it Secondly, it was not in the menu Thirdly, they could have told us about it when presenting the bill to show honesty. We refuse to pay. Luckily they deducted it.
We would have paid for it if we were told in advance or at least told us when presenting the bill.
Food taste are not great either. Some of it are just utterly tasteless. Even kids...
Read moreLast December my family and I were here to celebrate my parents’ 56th Anniversary, That was our first visit to this restaurant, every dishes was good, especially their Lap Mei Fan, only dish that we were not happy with is their sweet and sour crabs, quite costly but no fresh at all. Today Chap Gor Meh I was here again having lunch with my family, what I can say is we were quite disappointed with all their dishes this round. All the food didn’t taste great compared to those we tried last December, the steamed chicken over steamed, the Lap Mei Fan was over salty, even the stir fried pork slices was too hard too, A pot of chicken soup costed rm400+ was overpricing actually, inside got one whole chicken and not so much thin slices fish maws, luckily the soup taste good and their steamed Dragon Grouper was good too. We spent rm1.4K for 9pax this afternoon. Will visit again but...
