16/9/2024 #说走就走 (493) - 寻古早味美食 (49) - 瓦煲鸡饭- clay pot chicken rice
Many friends who come to Kuala Lumpur from other places always like to look for clay pot chicken rice in the Pudu area. Of course, I don’t rule out Pudu’s unique clay pot chicken rice (with tourist prices), but today, I would like to share a clay pot chicken rice restaurant located in Puchong that is also quite famous. It has a history of more than 30 years and has opened two other branches. We went to this one located at jln puchong, bukit Kuchai. The name of the restaurant is ‘食越添’.(Shi Yue Tian)
We ordered a large clay pot rice. In addition to the original flavour, we also chose to add salted fish and chinese sausage. You can also add eggs for a different flavour. Full of well-marinated chicken fillings, chopped green onions and a little coriander, mixed and stirred with sesame oil, oyster sauce and soy sauce, the store must keep the traditional "charcoal fire smell", and the chicken rice really tastes the charcoal aroma of the clay pot. They also have the famous coconut stewed chicken soup. However, we did not order this soup tonight, but we tried other stews, ordered lotus roots with peanut soup, and small bitter melon stew. After several hours of stew, the natural sweetness of the vegetables can be tasted, and the meat and vegetables are particularly soft. We also order a stir-fried water spinach. The store is generous with fried garlic, which makes the water spinach more fragrant. Overall, I think it is worth eating. The business hours are from 11 am to 3 pm and 5 pm to 10 pm. We arrived at about 6 pm. The store was full of customers, and there were still customers waiting while dining. #Say go #Claypot rice #Chicken rice...

Passed by this place perhaps close to a hundred times before finally deciding to give it a try. Even though it's marketed as a claypot chicken rice restaurant, I've never actually tried the signature dish here before🤣🤣. First time here was during dinner time when most people would order the claypot chicken rice but as I was not in the mood for that, I tried the doubled boiled soup and 2 dishes instead, served with white rice. Vaguely remembered that it was stir fry romaine lettuce (aka yau mak) and Kam heong sliced pork loin. It was all good, up to the standard of dai chow restaurants anywhere in Malaysia but nothing too outstanding. Will definitely be back to try the signature dish as it does look tempting.
2nd time back was during the MCO 2.0 for takeaway breakfast. In fact came here twice for takeaway and had the opportunity to try the chee Cheong fun, wantan mee, prawn noodle and nasi lemak. CCF and wantan mee was good, and obviously most morning customers came here for the wantan mee, but as I'm used to handmade springy noodle, that was the only aspect that was below expectation for me. The prawn noodle was quite good as well, you can really taste the prawni-ness of the broth and the added sambal does give it a kick! Nasi lemak on the other hand was too salty, lack fragrance and the rice was undercooked. Disappointing to say the least. Coffee was okay but a bit below par. I can see myself coming back for a few more visits in the future, hopefully they will add more variety to the...
Read moreIf you want the most average tasting of all average tasting claypot chicken rice, eat here. Sorry, nothing to shout about. Claypot chicken rice has no depth of flavor, and very few pieces of chicken no matter if you order big or small pot. We ordered one of each and chicken was so insufficient. The coconut chicken soup was decent though and so was their stir fry vegetable portion. We ordered 1 coconut chicken soup and 1 small order of sweet potato leaf shoots and they were good.
I will say, this spot is good for people who just want to eat some claypot chicken rice, or have a craving to satisfy, or happen to be in the area. And it seems like this restaurant caters mostly to folks living in the area anyways, which is probably why they draw a crowd on the weekends. It's a convenient place in the area to eat lah. But don't think those who are looking for mind-blowingly good claypot chicken rice will be satisfied eating here.
They also don't serve Chinese tea (those typical teapot kind in chinese restaurants) in this restaurant by the way. Not even if you bring your own tea.
Parking situation is great and easy. We were here during a Saturday evening, and they were plenty of spots in the area since they're basically the only major restaurant in the area.
Wheelchair 🧑🦽♿ access is surprisingly okay. They have a decently wide ramp going from the road to the entrance of the restaurant, although it's kinda steep. With some minimal assistance, wheelchair users or those with mobility issues should be able to navigate into and out of the...
