Francesco's — Restaurant in Żebbuġ

Francesco's pizza restaurant is more in demand than ever. What was once a hidden jem has become one of the most popular and busy restaurants on the island. The simple menu and excellent value are a hit with both locals and tourists. So much so that reservations are recommended every night. Although the menu is limited the (thin crust) pizzas are always tasty and there is sure to be something to suit everyone's pallet. There is even a gluten free option (though I couldn't say if it was prepared and cooked in a cross contamination-free environment). You can choose sunset views from the terrace, tables in Zebbug Church Square or indoor seating. Takeaway is also very popular. Francesco's may have become a victim of it's own success, however, with orders taking much longer to arrive at your table these days, depending on which night you go. Disgusting to say the least. Horrible from start to finish. Service is very unproffesional, organization does not exist in this place. Waited approx 2hr for 2 pizzas. Meanwhile, insects such as beetles and cockroaches flying all over the tables outside. Asked 3 servers to check on our order since it was skipped but none gave an answer. Once the pizzas finally arrived two insects just fall on the table from the balcony above. Needless to say at that point I was no longer even hungry. Just paid and left. If the conditions are not suitable to provide tables outside, refrain from doing so. People were more concerned about killing/avoiding insects rather than carrying out a conversation or eating. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Without a doubt, the worst pizza I’ve had in my life. The service was awful and we were treated as if we were inconveniencing them by wanting to eat at their restaurant. The pizza was bland with no flavour and no tomato sauce base on both pizzas we had ordered. I had read a review from 2 years ago saying that they suspect they give pre made frozen pizza bases with limited toppings to tourists and make fresh pizzas with plenty of toppings for the locals… if this is the case, this would explain why this place has so many positive reviews. If you’re a tourist staying in the area, go elsewhere - don’t waste...
