We went for dinner somewhat by chance. I happened to be in the area because my wife remembered having a good experience at a restaurant there years ago, though she couldn’t recall the name. We looked around and saw a couple of places that looked more like bars and one that seemed like a proper restaurant — Kyle’s Kitchen Zonqor — which appeared busy from the outside, so we decided to give it a try.
Upon entering, we realized the restaurant was actually quite empty; they had just seated most customers by the windows, giving a misleading impression of a full house. The host was polite and showed us to our table. A few minutes later, we were given the menus and ordered drinks: a bottle of water and a glass of prosecco for my wife.
However, when the prosecco arrived, it was clearly not prosecco but rather a sweet spumante — very different from the dry prosecco my wife enjoys. We pointed this out, and the waiter insisted it was prosecco. Knowing the difference, we pressed the issue. Eventually, another staff member (possibly the manager) admitted it was indeed spumante and explained they only serve prosecco by the bottle. What bothered us wasn’t just the substitution, but the attitude — dismissive and borderline condescending.
For dinner, my wife ordered the pasta with mushrooms and truffle, and I had the pork ribs. While waiting, they brought us a small appetizer of bread, bigilla, two olives, and some beans — a nice touch, though nothing special.
When the food finally arrived, the quality was disappointing. My ribs tasted like they had been stored in the fridge for too long and reheated in the oven — dry, lacking flavor, and unappetizing. The fries were slightly cold but passable; the mixed vegetables clearly came from a frozen bag. My wife’s pasta was overcooked and bland, lacking the expected flavor of either mushrooms or truffle.
We took most of the food home, as I was full and my wife couldn’t eat hers. The next day, our son (who isn’t picky) tried the pasta. When I opened the box with the leftover ribs, I was shocked to see the meat had turned blue — an alarming sign that left me seriously questioning what I had eaten the night before.
In summary: • Food: Poor quality and possibly unsafe • Service: Out of three staff members we interacted with, two were rude or dismissive • Ambience: Club-style music that didn’t suit the setting; mismatched cutlery and plates added to the lack of attention to detail
Sadly, this visit was a letdown. Given the overall experience, I doubt...
Read moreMy party of four had lunch at Kyle's Kitchen today, and we left delighted! This place is a gem, offering one of the best lunch experiences we've had in a while.
The food was absolutely phenomenal. Every single dish ordered was prepared perfectly, packed with flavor, and just incredible quality. The kitchen team deserves all the praise—this is truly five-star cooking! The atmosphere was also fantastic; it was chill, relaxed, and comfortable, making it easy for us to catch up and enjoy our meal without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. For food and atmosphere alone, this place easily earns 5 out of 5 stars.
The only small drawback was the service, which we would rate as 4 out of 5 stars. Our server was pleasant and polite, but the overall pacing was quite slow, and there were times we found them inattentive. With food this good, a little more focus on the front-of-house service would make the entire experience flawless.
Overall: Kyle's Kitchen is a must-try. The amazing food and great vibe are worth every penny. We highly recommend it and will...
Read moreBoth food and service are amazing here. Particularly the very definite attention to detail the chef takes in his food and presentation.
The fish was stuffed with lemons, cherry tomatoes, and herbs, which is a great take on the dish and seperates it from the rest of the boring fish dishes in the area.
The duck was cooked perfectly, and its sauces made with a clear love of cuisine.
The rib-eye was impressive, I enjoyed it almost as such as I enjoyed Wagyu. The Gorgonzola Sause was warm and served beautifully.
I was astounded by the fries, they were clearly blanched and stay crisp throughout the entire meal.
This place has the potential to become one of the greatest places in Marsaskala...
