An Unforgettable Maltese Evening at Ta’ Marija – Heartfelt Hospitality and Exceptional Flavours
Dining at Ta’ Marija Restaurant was one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Malta. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed not just as guests, but almost as family—thanks to the genuine warmth and attention of the staff, who went above and beyond to make our evening perfect. Traveling with a child of 9 yo, we truly appreciated how helpful, attentive, and caring everyone was, always ready to guide us through the menu or make us feel at ease.
The food was simply outstanding. Every dish we tried was full of flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly crafted with passion for traditional Maltese cuisine. From the starters to the desserts, each bite told a story of heritage and quality. The slow-cooked rabbit and the bragioli were especially memorable, and the house wine paired wonderfully with the meal.
What truly sets Ta’ Marija apart, however, is the atmosphere—a perfect balance of elegance and fun. The owner's personal touch is felt throughout the restaurant, creating a warm, welcoming space that celebrates Maltese culture. The live folk music and dance performance added another level of authenticity and joy to the evening. Guests were even invited to join in, which made the night not just a dinner, but an experience to remember.
Many reviews describe Ta’ Marija as “a taste of real Malta” and we couldn’t agree more. The combination of amazing food, heartfelt service, live entertainment, and cultural charm makes this place truly unique.
Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning to relive a great evening, Ta’ Marija is a must for anyone looking to enjoy Malta with all senses engaged. We’ll...
Read moreIt has been the worst experience I had in Malta. The restaurant has got some good reviews in both Google and Tripadvisor, and this is why we pick this restaurant for the night. Our first impression to the restaurant is good - well-decor with good local ambiance. Being in a restaurant that serves local Malta food, we picked the local festa menu that cost us 35EUR per person. It first came the local food platter, was authentic. It was an hour later when the second course was served - a ravioli. Fine we have got the time, though we were the second table seated in the restaurant and the next one being seated is like over half an hour later, hence we expected good serving speed. At this time, the restaurant was starting to fill up. So as you would expect, it took another hour for the main course, and the course was disastrous - over-cooked food yet cold - we couldn't finish it, not even half of it. However, the worst has yet to come - the dessert. They serve buffet as well in the restaurant, and they just got us some cakes from the buffet bar!! Definitely not what has been told on the menu, with zero plating. The service was poor as well. Maybe it was a very busy night for them and the staff was obviously overloaded - you could clearly observe the "black face" on the waitress. The restaurant manager was also unorganized - we could see that he failed to prioritize what should be done first throughout the whole night. This might be just an exceptional case to them. But to us, it really felt like 10 when we entered the restaurant, and -10 when we left. So for sure, we would not recommend...

On arrival I was greated warmly by Ben the owner and son of Marija with a nice welcome drink and fresh baked warm bread. The place feels special, beautifully designed, family photos are around and it has a warm yet sophisticated feeling.
Their new menu features all your Maltese classics with some modern twists. Fresh seafood and local ingredients are used and they hand make their ravioli as well. Everything was fresh, tasty, simply cooked and dining alongside the show was special. The highlight was the fresh prawn linguine which had such rich prawn flavour with perfectly cooked pasta. All generous in portion and the staff are well knowledged about the menu.
The Folklore shows on a Friday night are a must. Ben introduces each of the dances before they perform so you learn about the history of each as well. There was the fan dance, dance of the Knights, carnival one etc, it felt like stepping back in time. The traditional costumes were beautiful and all the performers were exuding joy and pride. What a welcome surprise to see the dance floor rises as well!
After this my friend requested a song and Ben sang. This reminded him that it was the anniversary of his mothers passing and he sang a beautiful rendition of Bocelli's Fall on Me. I don't think there was a dry eye in the room.
I feel lucky to have experienced such Maltese hospitality and I highly recommend this place. It's more than a meal it's...
