We dined at the Barracuda Restaurant today, an upscale establishment with an impressive reputation and excellent food. Located in St. Julian’s (or Sliema, depending on where you draw the line), the restaurant offers what I’d call one of the best sea views in the area. Sitting by the water, enjoying the serene atmosphere, was a real highlight of our visit. The Setup The Barracuda is part of a building that also houses an Italian restaurant on the basement and a steakhouse on the second. Initially, it wasn’t clear if these restaurants were interconnected or operated separately, but we learned they are distinct entities. A helpful staff member gently steered us back toward the Barracuda after we mistakenly headed toward the pizzeria upstairs. Food Experience We arrived around 9:30 PM and ordered Spaghetti Vongole. The dish was flavorful and well-prepared, with a delicate balance that allowed the fresh clam taste to shine. My wife, who prefers smaller portions, was quite satisfied. As a triathlete, however, I typically consume 350-400 grams of pasta, so I found the portion size a bit small. The wine selection was local and featured four white wines. Unfortunately, the staff lacked expertise in suggesting a pairing for the Spaghetti Vongole. After some internet research and discussion with a slightly more knowledgeable second waiter, we made a choice that complemented the dish well, though the process was unnecessarily complicated. Service and a Small Disappointment While the service was generally polite, the restaurant’s working hours signage caused some confusion. Although the posted hours indicated the restaurant was open until 11:00 PM, the kitchen had closed by 10:20 PM, leaving me unable to order a second round of Spaghetti Vongole despite still being hungry. Staff members apologized, but it was a letdown. Final Thoughts The view was spectacular, the food delicious (albeit portion sizes on the smaller side), and the prices fair (17 euros for Spaghetti Vongole). However, the lack of wine expertise and the unexpected kitchen closure could use improvement. Would we recommend Barracuda? Yes, but with the advice to arrive earlier and clarify portion expectations. I left a bit hungry but made up for it at home with two mini pizzas topped with salami!

We had high hopes for this place, especially after the hostess sold it so well outside. Unfortunately, it was not to be. The service was sub-standard at best. The food took over an hour to arrive. We ordered a lamb shank and orata. We understand that these dishes take longer than others, but by the time they arrived, the lamb shank was not hot but tepid (probably because they waited for the orata). The table next to ours came at least 20 minutes after us but got their food (also orata) before us. The best thing was that the waiter patronisingly explained the fish cooking process to me when I asked how much longer it would be (which was after 40 mins of waiting). However, this was not explained when we ordered. No one brought us bread, which we had to ask for. The lamb shank was mediocre at best with the risotto chewy and hard. The meat was well cooked, but the only flavour in the sauce was salt. I did not finish it. The orata was good but really not worth the wait. When asked, the waiter told us it took 35 minutes, but it took an hour. Again, this was not explained at the time of order. The calamari was very good. I ordered a martini, which neither had olives nor lemon twist but had a wedge of lemon stuck on the glass. Plus, it was not chilled. I don't know how this place has such great reviews. We were highly disappointed. Like someone else said in the reviews, it was too pricey, and we would have got better food at a lower price across the road. A pity on our last night in Malta, where we have had a brilliant cultural and dining experience before this.

Avoid this place – total disappointment from start to finish We recently dined at this restaurant, and it was an experience we wouldn’t wish on anyone. As soon as we arrived, we were approached (or rather, pressured) by a very insistent man at the entrance — a Brazilian host whose only goal seemed to be to get people to sit down. It felt like a well-rehearsed act just to lure in customers. Unfortunately, once seated, things only got worse. The restaurant is ridiculously overpriced for what it offers, with bland, tasteless food and careless service. We ordered seafood pasta, and it was honestly inedible: • The dish was drenched in oil, to the point where it completely masked the flavor. • There was no seasoning at all — no salt, no herbs, no nothing. Just bland, flavorless pasta. • We genuinely felt like they were mocking us with the quality of the food. Other unacceptable points: • They brought only one napkin for two people, even though we were eating seafood. • We asked for extra sauce for our starter (fried calamari), and the waiter told us the chef was “busy” — so we never got it. • No parmesan on the table. When we asked for some (which should be a standard with pasta), they told us it would be an extra €5 charge. Yes, €5 for a bit of parmesan. Unbelievable. Honestly, the value for money is terrible. This is clearly a tourist trap that doesn’t even bother to offer decent food or basic service. Avoid at all costs if you don’t want to waste your money. I’m attaching photos so you can see for yourself.

OMG I'm laughing at the moment because I visited yesterday evening.

The restaurant has obviously been taken over and being run by a pathetic excuse for a manager. Whoever the owner is they need to sit up and listen to customers. The manager is damaging the restaurant each and every day. GET HIM OUT!!! If he is the owner too. Listen up you absolute arrogant pig. You should not be in the catering business.

I had the same experience yesterday. Beautiful restaurant, great views but there is where it ends.

I visited this restaurant 4 weeks after it opened back in 1998. I believe it was sold or taken over b the most arrogant man.

We asked where the other main meals for our party were and we're told we didn't order anything else. A discussion took place by 6 members of staff basically being insulting to us. We were threatened by the pathetic excuse for a manager and were demanded to pay for what we had, including 3 drinks. Restaurants in the UK would have been so lovely trying to rectify the situation. We had to pay and the coward just said you pay or call the police!

Get the IDIOT OUT asap. This restaurant is beautiful but this angry, arrogant man will get it closed down.

Gordon Ramsay would really enjoy this one.

Avoid like the plague everyone. He is a complete A....e hole.

This is a review around 2 months ago from someone that obviously had the same opinion and experience as me. Worst reputation going .

Our order was as far as we got. No wait time to order took 45 mins. 2 starters arrived at the same time as I main course. Pathetic! We then had to ask it doesn't even deserve 1 star !! Me and my friends were so excited to try this restaurant at the beginning of our holiday as it seemed amazing with 5 start reviews but when we arrived and received our food is when it all went down hill. me and 2 others order just the spaghetti and tomato pasta , which was absolutely awful! and the pasta was so so hard, we tried to eat it but it was just to bad to keep in my mouth. then my friends had the carbonara which looked like scrambled eggs, tasted awful and basically like nothing. then after some time we got the attention of a waiter and when we complained is when it went further down hill! we explained what our problem was and how it was awful for all of us, the manager basically said nothing , just argued to us, stating that we had poor taste! i mean it's spaghetti for goodness sake. we then said whether we could come to a compromise as we have eaten hardly anything, whether we could pay half but the manger was having none of it, then started blocking off the exists whilst we were sitting down, then 2 of us went up to pay , the bill was given 10 minutes later when we had all gone up to the bar to get it and get out of there , when one of the waiters barged into us and said "i'm trying to do my job"!, when we where just trying to get out of there and was forced to pay 100% other wise the police would be called on us which was treated when we just wanted to come to a compromise as none of us had eaten any of us ! , even tho it we still had to pay 100% of the bill i still haven't eaten it ! then on our way out the manager said to his college and stated"no more of their kind" which also upset us as 60% of our group is of asian descent! to cut it short we are extremely disappointed , wouldn't even...

Dear [Restaurant Management],

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the dining experience my wife and I had at your establishment on Monday, April 8th. We were anticipating a delightful meal in what appeared to be a top-class restaurant, but unfortunately, our experience fell far short of our expectations.

Upon ordering, I requested the sea bass, while my wife opted for a medium/well steak. Regrettably, instead of the steak being cooked to our specifications, my wife received a steak that resembled old boot leather - extremely dry and overcooked. Despite bringing this to the attention of our waiter and subsequently the manager, there was no form of apology or gesture of goodwill extended to us. Furthermore, we were astounded by the attempt to belittle us regarding the proper cooking of steak. We had clearly requested a medium/well steak, which should have had a slightly pink center, yet what was served to us was far from acceptable.

Not only were we dissatisfied with the quality of our meals, but we were also appalled by the overall service. The gentlemen seated beside us also voiced complaints about delays with their main courses and were met with aggression. Ultimately, they left without paying for their meals. Additionally, there was a large group behind us who experienced similar issues, although they handled their complaints with much more respect than warranted.

To wait two hours for such a subpar dining experience is unacceptable. It is evident that the management and staff at your restaurant lack the necessary skills to effectively engage with the public and address customer concerns.

In light of this disappointing experience, I strongly advise reconsidering dining at your establishment and suggest that potential patrons seek better food and service elsewhere, perhaps even at establishments like McDonald's.

I hope that you will take this complaint seriously and take appropriate measures to rectify the issues we encountered. Your prompt attention to this matter would be greatly...
