Came to Dive and Olive with my husband and his family too celebrate our final day in together and to celebrate our wedding. We had just gotten married the night prior.
Our waitress was kind, answered our questions, and gave recommendations, but service was extremely slow. I think she was the only waitress for 5-6 tables. I spent years working in fine dining and understand it can get busy.
Additionally, I understand chefs can be crazy. However, I'd never had a chef insult me for being American. To be honest when my carbonara came out, it was so salty that I could only eat a few bites. I put the dish to the side and continued conversing with my husband's family. When the chef came out and looked at the table and pretty much asked how everything was and why we didn't finish the food, my husband told him the carbonara was a bit too salty for our taste. The chef then spoke at us with an aggressive tone saying things like "carbonara should be very salty because of the ingredients" and told us "we eat sh*t because we're from America." His aggression and the way he spoke at me and my family made extremely uncomfortable and ruined our short celebration as newlyweds.
I wouldn't recommend any expat coming here unless they want to be berated and eat SH*T food. So sad, because the place could have had a lot...

Read moreHonestly, this dining experience was bizarre. Out of eight days in Malta, this was the only "bad" meal I ate. This was where we chose to go for dinner, the night after my wedding, and boy did we regret it. The food might have been palatable, if not for the chef. He came out to check on us, before we had even gotten our food. When he confirmed we were American, he proceeded to insult us. Completely out of the blue. He claimed to have cooked on cruise ships on the east and west coast of the states. Must have a chip on his shoulder from his time there. Once we had our food, he came to check again, unsolicited. He asked for our feedback about the food. Honestly, the flavor was mediocre at best. After I told him that I found the carbonara too salty, he proceeded to insult us again, saying that Americans have sic "horrible" taste. Overall a totally bizarre, unsolicited, hostile experience. Would not recommend to anyone, while this "chef" is "cooking" there.
