McDonald's Cascavelle: Where Fast Food Goes to Die
If you think McDonald’s is a fast food chain, prepare for a paradigm shift. At Cascavelle, “fast” is an abstract concept—one they’ve evidently never encountered. Whether dining in or braving the drive-thru, expect an existential wait that could rival your last long-haul flight.
Let’s start with the service. If you enjoy feeling like an inconvenience, you’re in for a treat. The staff, when not engrossed in deep, leisurely conversations with each other, may eventually acknowledge your presence—begrudgingly, with all the enthusiasm of a sedated sloth. It’s a masterclass in customer disservice, a level of apathy that would make even the most sluggish bureaucratic office seem like a well-oiled machine.
The drive-thru is a particularly harrowing experience. Picture this: You inch forward for 15 minutes, finally reaching the order window, only to be informed that—surprise!—they're only accepting cash. No signs, no proactive communication, just the expectation that you’ll somehow telepathically divine this crucial information. When I asked why they hadn't bothered to let people know before trapping them in a labyrinth of cars, the response was a casual shrug and a variation of “not my problem.” When I dared to request a manager, they conveniently vanished, presumably in the hopes I’d give up and starve to death.
As for the food, when you finally receive it (if you haven't died of old age by then), you’d expect it to be fresh given the wait. Alas, no such luck. Somehow, despite seemingly making each order from scratch, they’ve managed to serve food with the same lukewarm mediocrity you'd get from a sad airport kiosk at 3 AM.
But what truly seals the deal is the utter lack of accountability. No apologies, no solutions, no compensation for time wasted. Just an infuriating blend of indifference and inefficiency, wrapped up in the unique brand of Mauritian “customer service” that seems to operate on the principle of the customer is always an inconvenience.
If this were a one-off, I’d be charitable. But after over ten visits, each one a slow-motion car crash, I can confidently say this is their standard operating procedure. If McDonald’s corporate (US or Africa) cares even slightly about its brand, it should send in a SWAT team of CX experts before this location fully devolves into a surrealist art piece about the death of efficiency.
Until then, if you value your time, sanity, and ability to access food before your next birthday, avoid this place at all costs. And if you, too, have suffered the Cascavelle McDonald's experience, I urge you to share your tales of woe—perhaps if enough voices join the chorus, someone,...

We stopped in for a late breakfast/early lunch. 21/12 a.m 9.15am doors were still locked. Official opening time was 9am! Returned 10am, finally open. Placed our order via touchscreen, 4 meals. A floor staff member who was ‘cleaning’ WATCHED US try to use the hand sanitizer station, it was empty, she continued her tasks without offering assistance or refilling the sanitizer. We sat down and waited. And waited. Close to 20mins later we had to inquire at the counter where our food was. A queue had formed at the counter, multiple customers asking where their food was. We overheard some customers complain and walk out after being told that there was no one trained to operate the cash register for payment. Staff REQUESTED OUT RECEIPT SO THEY COULD PASS THE ORDER TO THE KITCHEN. Kitchen ‘staff’ thencooked as per OUR RECEIPT. We received our food, partially cold, close to 30mins after ordering. Store was not busy. My young girls went to use the bathroom, there was no hand soap. While we were eating, two staff members proceeded to take their meal breaks outside. The store just opened 1.5hrs ago! This is the 2nd McDonalds we have eaten at on the island, the other day as 5/5. This 0/5 if that rating was possible here

Read moreA visit to McDonald's in Cavcavelle at 7.30pm for a casual coffee and fries unfortunately turned into a disappointing experience. The service provided was extremely poor, with staff appearing overwhelmed despite the low number of customers present. Upon my wife's attempt to place an order, she was met with rudeness from a staff member who directed her to use the self-service machine instead of assisting her directly. The lack of assistance continued as another staff member failed to help when requested, leaving my wife frustrated and ultimately deciding to leave. When I took over and placed the order, the slow food preparation process was evident, causing unnecessary delays for waiting customers. The unprofessional behavior of a female staff member, who was loud, laughing, and even screaming in the kitchen, was unacceptable and caused discomfort among the customers. Such behavior should be addressed promptly by McDonald's management to ensure a more pleasant and respectful environment for both customers and staff. On a final point, there were a lot of tourists and was an embarrassment to this country ......
