As a long-time patron of McDonald's, I have always admired the company's commitment to high quality, uniformity, and dependability across its many international locations. For two decades, I have had the pleasure of visiting their establishments worldwide, experiencing consistent quality and service wherever I go. However, I regret to report that my experiences at the McDonald's branch in Tamarin have deviated dramatically from the high standards I have come to expect from this global brand.
The main issue stems from a shocking disregard for their publicly listed business hours. On more than one occasion, the restaurant has simply failed to open during its standard operating times. This lack of consistency not only reflects poorly on the branch, but it also undermines the global McDonald's brand, which has built its reputation on predictability and reliability.
Moreover, the selection of available menu items at this location has been extremely disappointing. It's not uncommon to be told that several items are "not available," which is unacceptable for a McDonald's outlet. It's a disservice to loyal customers who have specific expectations when they choose to dine at a McDonald's restaurant.
Furthermore, the branch's refusal to utilize the drive-through (McAuto) service is another significant issue. Customers are often asked to come inside to order, even when the drive-through lane is clearly operational. This unnecessary inconvenience further contributes to the impression of poor service at this branch.
Lastly, a mix-up between a chocolate milkshake and an Ice Latte might seem like a small mistake, but when it happens repeatedly, it becomes symptomatic of a larger issue with training or supervision. It's a simple order that should never go wrong at a McDonald's outlet, highlighting a worrying lack of quality control.
It's with a heavy heart that I give McDonald's Tamarin this poor review. But it's out of a sincere hope that the management team will take the necessary steps to bring this branch up to the quality standards of the larger McDonald's brand. The experiences I have detailed over the past year are uncharacteristic of McDonald's and deeply troubling for loyal customers like myself. Head office needs to look into this branch before McDonald’s gets a bad rep.
We used their drive through, initially the gentleman taking the order was pleasant.
I ordered the fillet o fish because I was super happy to see that Mauritius McDonald’s has it unlike South Africa that has removed it from their menu plus there’s a special going on for Rs 99 for a fillet o fish meal. The person taking the order asked what size meal we’d like so I asked for large thinking that the additional pricing wouldn’t be that much. Turns out that the overall price of that was now Rs 199. Definitely a blunder on their part.
At the last minute we asked the gentleman if we may also add 4 wings to the order. He said there was no problem and then didn’t add it.
We paid, I checked the bill and that’s when I realised that they grossly overcharged me for the meal and didn’t add the wings either.
We asked for this to be rectified by the person taking the order and he said no. We then asked for the manager and said it wasn’t possible to help us.
We then asked for a refund and then magically we were able to get our initial order with an added Rs 40.
I cannot for the life of me understand why this couldn’t have been dealt with or communicated properly to begin with.
I was then surprised to find that the quality of the meal was terrible for a McDonald’s. The bun was flimsy, the patty wasn’t crispy, they only put half a slice of cheese and most of that just stayed on the packaging and the chicken was so dry, overcooked and tasteless.

I ordered a few menus at Mcdonald’s in TAMARIN on Wednesday 11.10.23.
The service there was really disappointing.
I ordered at 15:01, there were no people before. I got my order at the last instance after a few people who ordered after me after 15:25.
I ordered first before all these people, and I was delivered last. Those people after me also ordered quite a few meals and not just a single order.
It could be clearly seen that the workers inside were joking around with the food and not taking work seriously while I was waiting for my order patiently to resume my work! It was only after I enquired about my order that I saw them taking out the food from the fridge or whatever it was. I do not know for what reason I was served unjustly. Really disgusted by the discriminating service I received.
Adding to that, the food tasted really bland. I ordered a veggie pizza. It was really disappointing to see Frozen veggies + rougaille in a puff pastry which is so called Veggie pizza. Tasted nothing like one. The chicken nuggets were stale. In creole we say “Rassi” .
