El Nero Tacos — Restaurant in Cancún

I am mexican american, and I can guarantee you that for those looking for a "mexican restaurant" Tacos el Nero is where you want to go. Remember most restaurants in Mexico are Mexican restaurants, but I know what most americans mean when they ask for a Mexican restaurant.

First I want to mention is their "al pastor" tacos (pork meat with adobe). These are by far the BEST al pastor tacos I've been able to find in Cancun. Al Pastor tacos are a staple of Mexican cuisine in Mexico City. Taste Atlas recently named al pastor tacos the best dish anywhere in the world! (note they named Al Pastor tacos the best dish, but not necessarily the ones at El Nero)

El Nero offers tacos al pastor at 2 x 1. So you have to be careful when you order. If you want to eat 6 tacos, you want to order 3. If you ask for 6 you will end up with 12.

They also offer cows head. Yeah you can't put the whole head in one taco, but you can ask for a taco of beef eye, another one of beef tongue, brains, cheek, etc. They also have regular beef tacos, sudadero, etc.

They offer sodas and fresh waters (horchata, jamaica, tamarind, etc), but they don't offer any type of alcoholic drinks.

According to googles post, they open at 5:30pm, but usually they don't start serving food until closer to 6pm. Also they claim they close at midnight, but personally I've stopped by little after 11pm a few times and they were pretty much sold out of everything. I would say 6 to 10pm would be a good time to visit.

At the first glance not really inviting, but dare to Try. One of the best tacos in town. Amazing price value - we tried almost all of them apart from offal. The plastic around the plates is just something you need to get used to ;) the staff was super friendly and sooo quick. FYI don’t expect any beer/alcohol or long dinner - it’s a quick in and out...
