we were to late to do the full day visit but we were still able to visit their house and meet the family. Got greeted in very good english which has been rare in Mexico and got a full explanation of how the coffee was grown, info of the plants, burning process, full book of pictures, .. They also had some plants at their house so we were able to pick some beans and get educated about them which was really nice :) While giving the explanation we also got to taste various coffees, liquors, thee, ... basically everything you can make with the beans. We also got to see the rooftop which is where they had a lot of other plants and where they were drying different things. They even brought us to the market afterwards by car which was really appreciated given the temperature. If you don't have a lot of time and want to learn about coffee, this is the place to be. You will meet a very nice family and have a great time.
But for those that can, try the full day tour. If we would have known beforehand we would have...
Read moreCafe Yaxchilan has been one of the best surprise of San Cris. It's a family owned business dedicated to preserve sustainable and artesanal coffee production. It provides a great introduction to the topic, with many insights from the harvest to the production process, as well as the chance to connect with a lovely local family. We've had the 2/3h coffee experience at the family house together with Andrés, only 20 yo but with a tangible passion for the business and the product. Together with him we've explored the house and all the areas designated to the coffee production, getting to know the plants as well as the machines used. We've tasted several delicious products based on coffee and cascaras (coffee shells): two types of coffee, a jam, an infusion, a smoothie, and liquors. So tasty! Having more time I'd definitely recommend the full day experience including the visit to the plantation. A must to do...
Usé Converse viejos y me resbalé mucho jaja.

I had one of the most amazing experiences on the coffee tour with Marlene. You pay for the tour by sending your money at the OXXO, don't worry it's completely legitimate haha, in case you're worried about that. I went on the day tour because I thought 2 hours wouldn't be enough, and I would recommend doing the same. I also recommend wearing good shoes. I wore old Converse and slipped a lot.--it was pretty funny though. I'm so grateful that I went on this tour. I have an online coffee shop selling coffee and supplies, and was a barista for 7-8 years, so this was a dream of mine to visit a coffee plantacion. El tour started at 9 am and Marlene was exactly on time and so friendly. Overall, this was a great and emotional experience for me. It really changed my perspective and I learned more than I could have ever anticipated -- not only about coffee but about the communities who produce the coffee. I went in the off-season so I didn't see many coffee cherries, but the tour was still completely worth it and I have zero regrets. Marlene is a beautiful person and it made the tour even better. Everyone I met that day was just incredible. We also ate a delicious meal together. I am 100% going to be coming back again when I return to San Cristobal de las Casas. Thank you so much for your kindness, all of the information you shared with me, and for your...
