Juan's Place — Restaurant in Compostela

January 2024, our 25th trip to Mexico, and now the worst eating experience in Guayabitos, absolute opposite of everything we know true about the Mexican hospitality. Servers give the appearance of being "bothered" should you wish to order something. (slow getting up from a sit, saunter over, frown). Music so loud (next door) we moved tables and still, at a shout ,could not be heard while placing our order. Server's response , a rude "get use to it, it is Mexico" We decided to leave, (as did other guests), cancelled food order , paid for our drinks, and noticed an overcharge. The staff explain they add on their own tip. When we asked why they do not note this or explain to guest, a big indifferent shrug. The end result is they inadvertently get double the tip. Word is now spreading that this once beautiful beachfront restaurant has lost all the Mexican hospitality we love. It can be found every where else. No business...

*went back to Juan’s Sunday November 20th…. The female server was not friendly at all, from our arrival… got order wrong for our friends and would get corrected order but they would have to pay for both. We had Margaritas and they were not as good as in past. When paying bill, we and our friends, did not feel a tip for service was deserved due to her unfriendly demeanour and poor service therefore did not tip, the server ASKED for a tip and when we refused she took back the chocolates which she had given us with the bill!!! 👀. We have just spent a month is some very high profile resorts in both Cancun and Puerto Vallarta and by far this was the best ribs and pineapple margaritas I have ever tasted . The service was amazing and you were sitting with hand painted table clothes right on the Pacific Ocean ! It just does not get any better and the prices were very competitive , pretty much what we had been paying everywhere . Can’t wait to get back there to visit this lovely interesting family .
