We decided to spend an afternoon out of the hustle and bustle of San Miguel de Allende. At the advice of a friend we decided to try Mama Mia Campestre.
It is a beautiful location with excellent food and great service. We are glad we listened to our friends recommendation.
When first entering, it is easy to notice the tranquil, park-like setting. Lots of trees, a pond, and a waterfall make it one of the most naturally beautiful restaurants we have dined at in the San Miguel de Allende area. The tables are nicely spaced so although there were a lot of people at the restaurant, it felt uncrowded and serene.
Our server was friendly and efficient and while she didn't speak English, she put up with my mediocre Spanish and kept a smile on her face.
We ordered onion rings, chicken wings, and a pear burratta salad. The onion rings were huge and delicious. The chicken wings were perfectly cooked with an interesting sweet and sour sauce (we both liked the flavor of the sauce bet felt there was a little too much of it). Unfortunately my mediocre Spanish probably led to our server bringing the wrong salad. Instead of the pear burratta salad we got a salad with goat cheese, greens, garlic chips, and beets. While the salad was good, neither Stacy or I like beets so we were somewhat disappointed. We will definitely try the pear burratta salad next time.
While we usually leave Harkin at home when dining out, we saw that this restaurant was pet friendly and decided to bring him along. He enjoyed all the greenery and natural space and there were many other dogs there taking advantage of the delightful setting.
We are looking forward...
Read moreWe have been visiting this place for years because we like the family atmosphere. However, every time we go, and not to mention the weekends, the food and service are increasingly depressing. We were this Saturday 02/19/22 for dinner. First, the umbrella was in a weird position.I asked for help to move the umbrella because it was basically in my eyes. Nothing happened! We ordered our dinner, after it arrived I was waiting for someone to pass by to give me a forks, knifes, nothing happened, After 15 minutes I had to go directly inside to the bar to get my utensils Food; The hamburger that we ordered was called "A su punto", the meat was too cooked, the coffee was very light, totally bad, it seemed like coffee water with a little foam on top. Lately, when we order pizza we have to say that we want to cook all the way because often they give us the pizza not cooked in the center etc. I could imagine that this experience happens because they are short on employees and the weekends are filled with visitors. Good atmosphere but they have to improve and take into account the main thing; Food...
Read moreThe setting is fantastic. The food and service is average. We went one day and the service was pretty good. Tonight it was not. The setting is so fantastic, I wish the food and service matched. It’s like a great place to go out to eat if you have young children because there’s so many places to play although they are closed right now during Covid. Three hours in a playground chickens and a beautiful sandbox but all of that is closed during Covid. Average food and service in a great setting.
They do use fresh greens grown on the property for the salads. Last time my meat was basically raw in the center so I asked for it cooked longer tonight and it came out charred and covered in black and dry. My sister loved her hamburger and onion rings. Her friend hated the pesto pasta. Both liked the burrata salad. Last time we really liked our salads, this time they had too many prickly greens. Inconsistent, average, service isn’t too good but in a beautiful setting with chickens...
