Mario Gutiérrez — Restaurant in Guanajuato

A Google search for a restaurant in Dolores Hidalgo brought up D’ Capricho, so we stopped in to check it out. The chef came out to tell us about his menu - all looking quite interesting and we decided to stay. It turns out Chef Mario Gutiérrez is passionate about the food he prepares, and the resulting meal was the proof. Everything we ordered was inspired and beautifully presented. Interesting combinations and delicious flavors. So good we are determined to return soon for more! The amuse bouche of avocado with green salsa really did get our appetite up for the next course of tomato soup flavored with a hint of chili, olive oil and sherry - both excellent! The soup was so good, even one with a tomato soup aversion really enjoyed it! The next course was a light rice salad with diced vegetables followed by the entrees. We each ordered different dishes; the pork chop with pork belly, the beef steak with picante sauce, the vegetable and beef lasagna and stacked tortilla and chicken in green sauce. We agreed the lasagna and the pork chop were our favorites. We had to know what desserts Chef Mario had created, all sounded good, so we tried all three and were not disappointed: a sweet tamale filled with cheese, traditional corn cake, and a four cheesecake with crumb topping. Finished with coffee two ways. He wanted to show us how brewing French press coffee compared to filtered drip using optimum brewing times and temperatures resulted in slightly different qualities. You will have to try this demonstration and see for yourself which you prefer!
