Restaurant Review - K-tana Palace Chinese Restaurant
We love good Chinese. So much that my wife has become almost an expert at home making good NY style Chinese food as we cannot find any good Chinese in Acapulco. We have had Chi Palace, and in a pinch it may satisfy a craving but this place is much better . I was googling something the other day and somehow K-tana Palace popped up. After some quick research, we knew we had to give it a try. We weren't disappointed.
Location - costera, across from the Fiesta Americana Hotel. About 6, 4 top tables, and great view of all the action of the Costera as its covered outdoor dining.
Service-the service was outstanding and very attentive. We were the only ones there for dinner, but soon most tables were full.
Cleanliness-Not sure how long they have been open or re-open after covid if that was the case, but the restaurant was clean. Looked freshly painted as well.
Food/Menu
The menu is a typical Chinese menu and has all of the classics you would expect. I was impressed that I noticed the photos on the menu of the dishes, clearly were actual photos taken at the restaurant. Even in the USA, they are usually stock photos and never looks like what is on the menu.
What we ordered-
Egg Rolls - came out very hot and fresh and had the classic filling expected. I think it was all vegetables and was very good. The wrapper was actually spring roll wrappers which we like as they are lighter and super crispy. The sweet and sour sauce, was sadly the same nuclear colored glowing food dye red sauce that has seemed to have taken over everywhere. It was not very sweet, so that was not our favorite. But the egg rolls were so good, it didn't really need anything.
Hot and Sour Soup - this soup is always my fave and not easy to find a good one in Mexico. It was a nice sized bowl for 55 pesos and was excellent. It could have had some more veggies in it to be heartier but was very good.
Chicken Lo Mein- Had a great flavor and even bok choy, my wife's fave, which we haven't seen here before. They did use a fettucini type of noodle, but totally fine. It had a really good flavor. If anyone knows who sells bok choy locally let is know.
Chicken and vegetables in the classic Chinese brown sauce - This also was very good and while baby corn is not my wife's favorite, I love them i and they weren't the weird canned briny tasting ones either. Another excellent dish.
Bottom Line - the portions were nice, so we felt it was a good value. The place was clean, service was excellent and the food was made fresh and tasted very well. I even forgot to add soy sauce as it didn't need it. I did see they had beer on the menu as well. If you want to try an alternative to Chi Palace. K-tana Palace is worth a visit. They even deliver.
🥢🥢🥢🥢 4.5 rating. Improve the sweet and sour sauce, fry the included fried rice and a bit more "wok hei" char on dishes and it would be a 5 chopsticks score. :) we feel it was far better...
