Last year I was in Acapulco for a meeting and I had a few days afterward to look for surf. I didn't want to pay the high price to stay at Playa Revolcadero or the points to the north. Luckily I stumbled onto La Orquidea Hotel on Playa Bonfil to the south.||The hotel is small (about 8 rooms), has a lovely courtyard, was inexpensive (I don't remember exactly, but in the neighborhood of $20 a night), has a restaurant, and is right across the street from a nice surf beach. The surf was quite good while I was there (4-6') and there weren't many people out. I was the only gringo in town and the locals would paddle over to me and chat. They were happy to see a travelling surfer visit their beach, instead of the more famous breaks to the north and south (e.g., Puerto Escondido). Walmart is a 20 peso round trip from the hotel and the hotel that is visible to the road is Hotel Villa del Mar, Hotel/Restaurant La Orquidea are on the right side of the road. The beach is clean and has waves and the...
