We came here on a Friday around 4 PM at the recommendation of one of the street vendors.
The GOOD - we were warmly greeted and promptly sat down. The Michelada w cerveza Victoria was perfect after being on my feet for a couple of hours shopping. The kids really enjoyed the Horchata. The food was excellent. The flight that they bring in with a mix of guacamole, salsa, grilled onions, beans was very tasty to go along with their freshly fried mini tortillas (chips). There were six people in our party. Three of us got the house specialty – the Carne en su Jugo. Two got the Arrachera and one got the Chuleta. Everyone really enjoyed the food. We passed on the dessert because everything took so long and we had to get back on the road.
The FRUSTRATING - the wait staff was mostly a group of younger kids, probably in their early 20s. A couple of them were very nice and sincerely trying to do their best. I wish I would’ve gotten their names so that I could give them some recognition, but I can only describe them. One was a shorter brunette girl with mid length curly/wavy hair. The other was gentleman with silver-ish roundish frame glasses. They were really trying to make the best out of a messy situation.
That being sad, they were in total disarray. The drinks were all brought out at different times. The food was slow to come out. Therefore, when we asked for refills on the flights of guacamole, salsa, beans they were very slow to bring that out. Although the handmaid tortillas were excellent, they brought those out about 15 minutes before the food actually came out, so the tortillas were cold by the time the food made it out. Again everyone in our party got the food at different times, with cold tortillas, then the food was getting cold as we waited for fresh tortillas.
The UGLY - what really made me the most upset was that the waiter who initially sat us down disappeared. My son then pointed out to me that he was sitting at the back of the restaurant eating a meal with couple of other staff members. It wasn’t difficult to see him because the restaurant was only about 15% full. We made eye contact a couple of times. He eventually came back around to finish things up with us. When he brought out the bill, he asked if I wanted to include a gratuity. I commented that I normally would and that the food was great, but the service was totally disorganized. Therefore, I would not leave them anything extra.
In summary, I would say that this place has potential to be very good. They need leadership. They need a manager that knows what they are doing and guiding this young staff that seems that they really do want to deliver great service. I hope they get...
