Restaurante Pig & fish La Cochera — Restaurant in Oaxaca

This is a cool place that serves good value for money tacos in terms of size and quantity of meat, but the servers seem to be very pushy and deceptive. My girlfriend and I were recommended to come try out the tacos from a friend and we instinctively ordered the 5 taco sampler plate plus some beers. The server kept asking us if we wanted to try other things, like the shrimp empanadas. We said no, just the tacos, but he kept suggesting that we try an empanada, so we agreed to try one. When the food arrived they brought 4 empanadas instead of one, and they were very greasy and way too heavy for the light snack that we wanted to have. We saw that the menu had one option for empanadas, and that was $30 pesos, so we reluctantly said ok gracias. We ended up paying for 4. We ate the tacos which were quite filling and loaded with meat, but none of them blew us away in terms of quality or taste. We asked for more beers (Modelo negra) but they said they only had pacifico or corona, so we ordered pacificos. They brought us a 1L bottle of pacifico without explanation that they only had 1L bottles of that beer. This was fine, but we noticed as another couple arrived, they were told that the pacificos were super cold and highly recommended and when they received TWO 1L bottles of pacifico they were surprised and confused and clearly just wanted two normal sized beers. We were then convinced that the sales tactics of the staff were to be intentionally misleading and confusing in order to push sales and increase your bill. My girlfriend is Guatemalan and asked many questions to our server to clarify everything that we ordered, but he kept talking in circles so fast that she couldn't even understand what he was saying. It was a heavy pressure of "you definitely want to try this and we will order it for you" which is the exact opposite of how we like to be treated in a restaurant. Unfortunately we will not return because of the pushy sales tactics of the staff. This is not how you run a business! If you want to try their tacos just go for those alone, say no to...

Absolutely the best taco stop in town. We usually go to the truck by Sam's, so this is a little out of our way, but absolutely worth the drive. The astheitic is modern and fun, with comfortable seating that does not feel cramped. But the food... The food is an explosion for your mouth. The flavors are amazing and the presentation is perfect. They even thought to double up on the tortilla shells for the "messy" fillings. We started with a shrimp empanada with queso and piña coco sauce, absolutely delicious. I got the 5 taco mixta. I'm not a fan of the pork with chicharrón, I just don't care for chicharrón, but the flavor is still top notch, although my favorite is the fish which has a slight orange flavor, just delicious. My husband got the arrachera chibata and the meat on that is tender and tasty. We adore the salsa selection and the presentation for it is perfect. My favorite place for ciabattas in all Oaxaca. I love this restaurant. Comming from a yucatecan mother, I really really enjoy their cochinita pibil.
