I recently dined at Frida inside the Grand Velas Resort in Playa Del Carmen, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is lively and vibrant, with live music adding to the energetic ambiance. While the noise level can be a bit loud, it actually creates a warm, family-friendly environment where everyone feels welcome.
The menu is both family friendly and sophisticated, perfectly satisfying a foodie like me. I was especially impressed with how well the restaurant handled my dietary needs. The staff was knowledgeable about food allergies and worked closely with me to provide gluten free and fish only options. Their attentiveness made me feel confident and cared for throughout the meal.
Every course was delicious, but my soup was a standout: a shrimp and tomato based dish that was bursting with flavor. The kitchen graciously modified it to exclude cheese and mayo, which I don't eat, and I honestly wouldn’t have wanted it any other way, it was fantastic.
For my entree, I ordered the salmon, and it was cooked to a perfect medium temperature. The preparation highlighted the freshness of the fish, with flavors that complemented it beautifully. It’s rare to find salmon cooked so well; it was tender, moist, and simply perfect.
The only minor hiccup of the evening was some confusion with our drink order at the start, but the waiter handled it quickly and professionally, ensuring it didn’t detract from our experience.
Overall, Frida exceeded my expectations with incredible food, accommodating service, and a vibrant atmosphere that’s perfect for families or anyone looking to enjoy a lively dining experience. I highly...
Read moreFrida was by far the worst part of this vacation. The following incident actually happened twice, but ended up dismissing it because it is out of the ordinary to deal with. My family and i have allergies to many different foods. In order to make sure that everything is smooth we order ahead and make the chefs/people involved aware. So it comes time to our reservation. Everything goes as planned. UNTIL THE BREAD COMES OUT!!! We informed the staff we cannot have the bread because it will send us to the hospital. We thought this would be the end of it (Boy were we wrong) they kept trying to bring us bread for nearly the next 30 minutes. This annoyed the heck out of all of us and we were already ready to get out of there. Then the food comes. I thought it couldn't have gotten any worse but my steak was a square, unseasoned medium piece of meat that was no good. The best thing out of the family of 6 (there was a wide variety of choices) was the pasta. BUT ITS A MEXICAN RESTAURANT!!!! In fact lucca (right across the hall) was the best restaurant I've been to yet. I would discourage anyone from going to frida and if so keep in mind that from MY experience the food ia very low quality. Have a...
Read moreSuch bad acoustics I feel like I'm in a school cafeteria. Live music is wasted, a radio would sound better throughout this noise. Can barely hear people across from me at the table.
They brought my dad leftover champagne without sparkle, and then a new bottle after we complained. My glass remained without refill for 30+ min at a time.
The avocado toast was delicious. Bread was redundant.
Menu was difficult to choose from until you get to fish and meat pages, but even then it's heavy on sweetness.
I highly recommend you book early. For our 8:30pm appointment, entrees didn't arrive till nearly 10pm.
Food presentation is nice but it was not as good as Luca. Honestly I think we all had to run to bathroom.
+1 for the chef thoughtful attention at desert. +1 for...
