Great atmosphere. (Buen ambiente). Average Pizza (Pizza mediocre). In the area around the University of the Americas, there are few restaurants that cater to the over 30 crowd. This place is one of them. I think that is the main reason for their success. Between my guests and I, we ordered three pizzas. The all suffered from the same problem. 1) The crust was not crisp and just lacked something aside from the fact that it was taken out of the oven a couple minutes before it should have. 2) The sauce and topping lacked any trace of an herb or spice. In my opinion, any pizza should have a trace of some herb (rosemary, basil, oregano, etc) and maybe at least some black pepper. All pizzas lacked character for the absence of any detectable amount of an herb or spice. 3) Under done. There was absolutely not even the slightest hint of caramelization on the finished pizzas. Not sure if this is standard operating procedure here or if I just had bad luck. The positive of this place is the nice atmosphere, lots of plants, a more mature crowd. Just dont come here expecting a truly...
Read moreThe restaurant is amazing with its traditional vibe and the way the tables are arranged all over the place, something that allows a lot of people to be there without feeling overwhelmed by everyone around you. While the restaurant was full, the hostess was really nice explaining the waiting time and it wasn't so bad because they have a small but comfy area to sit and wait to be called and they even bring you some snacks (flat bread with pesto dip) and the drinks menu. The flavors on the pizza are anything but traditional, which just makes the visit better as you get to try new mixes in flavors. Our only downside to the visit was that when we got our table nobody told us it was in the smoking area so to be honest, while I'm a smoker I do not enjoy the smell of cigarettes when I'm having food, so it wasn't as great when some of the guests around us where smoking while waiting for...
Read moreLa Berenjena is a very nice place. Really cool atmosphere with nice music. The food quality in general is very good and they have a great wine and beer selection. For my taste, the pizza dough could have a little more flavor, aka salt. A little disappointing was the tomato sauce on my pizza. I am used to Italian sugo, which is cooked for hours and is full of flavor. This one was a bit too random. Next time, I'll go for the Lasagna and hope that the Bolognese will be better. Overall, this place is great, but there's always room for...
