I wrote Fernando a highly positive review for this restaurant when my partner first discovered it three years ago, which now deserves a full update. Where do I begin? Fernando himself is an amazing human being and has become one of our very best friends in the entire world since discovering this restaurant. But we met him through our search for delicious food, perfect location (right on the malecon), excellent customer service, and cheap eats and his restaurant checks all the boxes. Though Francisco, the chef, didn’t work with Fernando when we first discovered the restaurant, he has since joined forces and the restaurant is our absolute favourite place for breakfast and lunch. Francisco is an amazing and creative chef and always and consistently makes delicious food that is full of flavour and love. I am a huge breakfast person and his dishes are always phenomenal and very filling! I am always the most pleased when I ask him to surprise me with some authentic dishes that he prepares from scratch. In their excellent English and Spanish, we thoroughly enjoy both their company, their amazing hospitality, and their MUY SABROSO comida. And the priceless view from the tables overlooking the ocean is phenomenal and unobstructed. That in itself is a reason for coming to La Gorda y el Burro. And for that and all the other great reasons, we will keep coming back to this little gem. Our lives are so much better for this place, in more ways than just having a happy and full belly.

Excellent food and Fernando is fluent in english and knowledgeable about the area. It was close to my Airbnb so I have been many times. Always great food, prices and the best view in Playa Norte. Rocio cooks fantastic, authentic Mexican cuisine including a delicious flan. Open until 4pm daily except closed Tuesdays.

Recomiendo ir a otro lugar.

In English:

WOW what a ridiculous experience I had here. The owner is completely unprofessional and doesn't care about customers and isn't afraid to show it. I tried to ask him about items on the menu and was ignored multiple times. Had to communicate exhaustingly about my food allergy which he just didn't seem to listen to or care about and kept offering me food that contained items I couldn't eat. When asking questions about the food I was repeatedly ignored or told it was secret. I was completely disregarded as a customer, in fact I felt like he didn't even want me as a customer. And when it comes time to pay he adds up your order cost in his head, not even using a calculator, which is completely unprofessional and prone to error.

Then when I offered feedback and tried to point out to him that I hadn't been able to find out about any of the menu items or anything and share my experience he argued with me very childishly and told me that he makes enough money and that I just want to argue and should go open my own restaurant. Never in my life and all of my years going to restaurants around the world have I delt with such an ignorant and immature owner. The food isn't bad but its just not worth being treated with such disregard as a customer, there are plenty of other restaurants to go to. And this restaurant keeps very weird hours and the first two times I went it was closed anyways, so chances are you won't even be able to get in anyways. I recommend going...

Wonderful little Gordita shop. Francisco is very friendly and hospitable. He has been there nine years and very customer oriented. Food is simple, fresh and well prepared. The seating is basic but has a loft upstairs that looks out over the beach. Highly recommend that if you’re walking down the Malecon and feeling peckish to stop in for a quick bite. Tell Francisco that Victor and...
