Excellent Flavor, Above and beyond service, Attention to Cleanliness! Aesthetics: I pass by every day by this Taqueria. Not only do they Clean at night, but you can find them cleaning in a.m. till late afternoon when they open, as well as through the operating hrs. As you walk in you will notice all kitchen is stainless steel. Everything is fully scrubbed down and entire dining room is hose down. I have not walked in and seen grime on corners where most places neglect because of the difficulty in cleaning. Not sure if i can upload pictures after posting but next time i pass ill be sure to take a quick picture. So you can have piece of mind that the appropriate precautions are being taken to protect its customers from any virus, along side face coverings. You will also find that there is a hand washing station available withing the dinning room for everyone convenience. I find the hand washing station located in the dinning room for everyone to see help remind people that its necessary to wash your hands before eating. Although if you choose not to well thats on you. Flavor: Tacos are all incredibly delicious, full of flavor. One thing to note before going into each meat is pointing out a few things. The tortilla they use, you will notice un like other tacos the tortillas are really thin. They give you 2 tortillas per taco, but because they are so thin it feels as the tacos have only one. This is perfection for me because you taste the meat not the tortilla. Thick tortillas takes away from the flavor of the taco. But dont be fooled, just because they are thin doesn't mean they will break, they hug the meat and all the salsa you add perfectly. Al Pastor: Its not what you find in northern part of mexico. I got corrected because i thought Al pastor was the same as Adobada. Although both are cooked on the spinning top they use different types of chilies. In Baja California you will find Adobada which was what i was used to. The one you will find here is Al Pastor which although some what similar the flavor is significantly different. Best way i can describe it if adobada was cooked with sweet grilled onions. Definitely a flavor profile that one must experience in your life time. But if you dont like onions, which i dont understand why you wouldnt id skip this meat. However the grilled onion flavor along with its perfectly smokey chili after taste will definitely leave you wanting more. The meat because of the type of fire they use has a slight toasty crunchy outer taste combined with a deep juicy core makes it a complete winner in my book. Intestine: Squeamish yet? Relax my american friends, live a little. Honestly probably my second favorite taco here. They Boil the intestine and then grill it. You get a creamy and perfectly crunchy texture to the taco. If you every tried any type of duck pate, or cooked liver pate, well the texture and creaminess of flavor best resembles a pate. Now grill them in charcoal, and you just added a crunchy experience that i can best describe like a chicharon (fresh fatty pork grinds). I say live a little, eat outside the box, when in Mazatlan eat like a Mazatleco. Highly recommend this taco. Cabeza: Literally “head” in Spanish Brings me to my NUMBER 1 favorite taco here. Cabeza can be a mixture of the various types of meats found on a cow head, including cheek, tongue, eyeballs, and if requested brain. Rest easy, haha here its not a custom to add brain. haha However I’ve found that here it’s mostly just meat from the muscles all around the head of a cow, braised until they fall off the skull. The intense fatty flavor hits every single pleasure note in my mouth giving me a foodgasm after every bite. Just amazing combination of meat steamed to perfection. This place would have rated higher if they stopped using so much cilantro. They put so much on the tacos and quesadillas that it drowns out all the other flavors. I'm not sure if it's because they want to hide something, maybe their meat is funky. But I did order a carne asada taco natural....meaning just the meat and tortilla. The meat was really good. They have a nice variety of sauces and salsas to add to the tacos but even so all you taste is the overwhelming cilantro. Cilantro is meant to be used sparingly to give flavor not to graze on it like cattle. I would rate them higher if they just cut back a lot on the cilantro. One last thing, you have to mention is if you want flour tortillas because they serve the tacos on corn tortillas and the waiters don't ask it you want to choose. For amazing, authentic and off the beaten path taquerias in Mazatlán, at the top of my list is Super Tacos La Carrera. This place is a few blocks off the Malecón and it's worth the trip. They make the best pastor tacos you can find in town.
