Terribly disappointed. We ate here because of all of the positive reviews. In the end, it was an OK place for gringos who aren't comfortable to mingle with actual Mexicans. But if that's what you want, why not stay in Tucson? It was way overpriced. We could've had much better for less than the $65 US we spent there. Dumb, dumb, dumb. To its credit, the decor and atmosphere was lovely. The beer was tasty, as it always is in Mexico. We did enjoy the "La Roca Cheese," which was a fried potatoes on melted cheese topped with a very tasty tomatillo salsa. The chips and salsa were pedestrian. The my wife's fish tacos were downright bad. They were so soupy, she had to eat them with a fork. When she asked the waiter if she could have a bit of both of their salsas, he said he could only bring one. Better tortillas should've been a given, being in Mexico and all, but they were not fresh. The carne deshebrada was served without usual sides such as cilantro and onions. Overall, very disappointed in a cute place that could've been great had they been less interested in sticking it to the gringos. If you're ever in Agua Prieta, a great Mexican food experience can be had for half the price at...
Read moreThis place is old world dining at its best in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. It is built partially in a cave and you have to cross the railroad tracks and the line of cars waiting to cross the border to get to it, but worth the risk! (Not really a risk, just look where you are going) My friend and I try to go every year to celebrate our birthdays if not more. I know how people are saying that there is such a crisis at the border, but as far as I am concerned the Mexican people have always been welcoming and I have always felt safe wherever I have roamed in Mexico. Ever since passports were required to walk across the border; it was the beginning of the business decline in Nogales and every time some idiot opens their mouths about how there is a need for a wall just exacerbates that decline because people are not willing to cross the border anymore. Parts of Nogales is built on international tourism and it is a shame that the working and the creative class is struggling under false pretenses...
Read moreWe ate there recently. The staff were absolutely the best. The service here is top-notch. We were dressed in street clothes but it is a very nice restaurant. However, we did not feel uncomfortable. I cannot emphasize enough how fantastic the staff were. The prices are similar to what you would find in an American restaurant and a meal for three with soft drinks and dessert plus tip was around $100. They take credit cards and American dollars. It is a safe and comfortable place for Americans. The food was very fresh and high quality, presented beautifully but very bland. It seems they under-season it to appeal to an American palate. If you are used to any kind of seasoning it will be bland to you. However they brought some spicier salsa when I asked and it was very good. I went there because it was so highly recommended and overall it was a very...
