Munch on a Munchi, Min Jiang Kueh. Putting my shoes as if I were a resident tourist exploring Lau Pa Sat.
Service is excellent. Thank you for the extra mile to warm the Min Jian Kueh for me.
What exactly is this delicacy?
Turns out most tourists were wondering as they passed by this outlet serving essentially local style pancakes with local choices of filling and /or jams: peanut, black sesame, red bean, kaya, coconut or the adventurous non-traditional jams
Delicious when warmed, moist and chewy in general. The black sesame filling is rich and flavoursome, albeit too sweet for me, and I guess I would be known to have a different following because of an ultra-sensitive palate. The edges of the charcoal black sesame I had ordered was crispy.
Great snack here bringing me fond memories of having it as a child. Maybe the adults then in my life wanted to remind me life is hopeful and worth living!
Have this at least once to experience the wonders of a beloved childhood snack for most people...
Read moreMunchi pancakes at Lau Pa Sat is one of my go-to min jiang kueh places when I am in the office and would like a relatively healthy snack. The min jiang kueh is made at the premises and comes in the original flavour, as well as charcoal flavour or matcha flavour. The fillings vary from the old school favourites like peanut, red bean, coconut, to the slightly more modern black sesame (made in house) and biscotti flavour. My personal favourites are the peanut and black sesame. Usually the min jiang kuehs are made chock full of filling. The staff manning the counter are really friendly and offer to warm up your pancake in the microwave so that you can have a piping hot pancake on the spot. There isn’t really a dining in spot (apart from bar/cocktail tables) so you would need to sit in Lau Pa Sat itself if you want a “dine-in” experience. Pictures probably don’t do justice to the min jiang kuehs! Would recommend to the shop not to reduce the portion size (the all too often trap of...
Read moreI was wandering around LPS, looking for traditional tidbits but chanced upon this pancake stall. I ordered original coconut, red bean, peanut and charcoal black sesame. The part time staff gave me biscoff instead of peanut, which I knew it'll be too sweet for my liking. Of all the flavors I'd gotten, I was pleasantly surprised that charcoal black sesame was my favorite! The coconut would taste better if a little salt or palm sugar is added to enhance the flavor. I would definitely return to purchase more again, as the pancake is quite close to the traditional ones I've tried in a long while. Crispy on the outside and just soft enough on the inside. Not too thick like you know that brand.. and not too thin,...
