One of the less well known and well travelled bars, Cuba Bar is located on Maha Bandula road and is a walkable distance from other nightlife hotspots like 50th Street.
The menu is quite expensive and it appears that the prices are always increasing - beers are quite reasonable and shots are priced between MMK 2,000 to 3,500. We ordered 'Lemon Drops' and 'Kamikaze' shots but were told they did not have shots available and tried to get us to order more expensive versions of the drink. We persisted and magically they had the shots available. This redirecting is a headache and severely detracts from the enjoyment of a night out. Patrons should be on guard against this.
Making of our first round of shots was somewhat slow but the Lemon Drops were a nice and fun touch and tasted like cough medicine and they went down a treat. Kamikaze shots were a little disappointing.
When we got the bill we were served a higher one and they had to readjust it when we spotted the errors. Accidents do happen but this is a recurring trend I notice increasingly in Yangon bars and patrons should be equally on guard against this.
However, they did give us a round of shots on the house before we left which was a nice touch.
