First of all, we accidentally booked two dinners at the hotel, before arriving (just checking what they were offering) and despite calling to cancel, we were forced to pay and eat there. I am lactose intolerant but also soy intolerant. There was no oat milk for coffee nor any yogurts or other options at breakfast. No gluten free bread the way either. I bought my own oat milk at the supermarket and they agreed to make me cappuccino with it, thankfully. Still, since we told them we are staying all week, and asked if they have sheep or goat milk products - they could have offered us something?
Regarding the dinners: after a not pleasant encounter with an elderly receptionist (since I myself am 62, I think I can say this and not be age biased), later we spoke to Sky, a helpful young receptionist who tried to find a way to helping without giving us any money back.
Skip forward to dinner last night. The game stew apparently had lactose in the sauce, so I ordered the parelhoen. But I mainly ordered it for the great sides: sweet potatoes, parsnip and carrots. I’m not supposed to eat nightshades (potatoes…) so, I was happy these sides were clearly stated on the menu.
When our meals arrived, and my husband had the duck breast (yummy by the way), we noticed that both our dishes had exactly the same sides: a sort of ratatouille, potatoes and a piece of fennel- neither raw nor cooked. The parelhoen was dry and tough. The vegetables were exactly what I couldn’t eat.
When I complained to the waitress, assuring her it wasn’t her fault, she said: it’s an island here and I can’t magically get you some sweet potatoes.
No apology, nothing. In fact, they avoided our table all together after that. Around us, other people waiting a long time for their meals too, and I heard one waiter say, “we don’t have pasta” after another guest had ordered it half an hour earlier.
After two hours of being ignored, my husband went to speak to Sky who was sympathetic and they offered us dessert for free (all with lactose by the way). So, I asked if they still had apple pie and luckily they did. Warming that up and serving it to us took about another half hour. Pffff
Besides that, the restaurant is chilly at night and half empty. Not a warm atmosphere at all. Tonight we are going out to eat, but I hope they will give us our money back for the dinner we won’t be eating here. It’s really...
Read moreWe hadden gereserveerd.
Read moreMij fjouwer personen ut ieten ien it restaurant de Kaapse Pracht op it moaie Fryske Amelân. It reserveren gy net hylendol soepel en by oankomst koeden ze us net ferstean.
So.. After reserving a table for 4 with a very uninterested person, we still managed to get a spot though we were told it might take longer because of how busy it was. Meanwhile, only 8 tables were occupied out of maybe 50.
We ordered drinks, which arrived fairly quickly. I ordered the spare ribs. Which also came quite fast, but they were cold and seemed like they had come straight from the fridge into the microwave. Halfway through my diner the staff had to reheat the spareribs for me.
Good...
