Diwali Palace Restaurant — Restaurant in Amstelveen

I recently visited this Indian restaurant, and unfortunately, my experience was far from positive. I ended up here only because it was late at night and all the other nearby restaurants were closed. If I’d had any other option, I definitely would have chosen differently.

From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. The waiter seemed uninterested and almost annoyed by my presence. There was no greeting, no smile, and I felt like I was inconveniencing him just by being there. This set a negative tone for the entire meal.

I ordered the chicken tikka masala, hoping for a comforting and flavorful dish. As someone of Indian background, I have high expectations for this classic, and sadly, it missed the mark by a wide margin. The curry was overwhelmingly spicy, but not in a balanced or enjoyable way—it was just heat, with none of the rich, complex flavors that define good Indian food. The sauce lacked depth, and there was no hint of the aromatic spices or creamy texture I was hoping for. It honestly felt like the dish was made without any real care or understanding of Indian cuisine. As an Indian, I have to reject that dish entirely; it simply did not represent the food I know and love.

Overall, the food was mediocre at best, the service was uninviting, and the entire experience left me disappointed. I would not recommend this restaurant, and I certainly would not return unless it was my absolute last option. There are far better places to enjoy authentic...

We went with expectations ... Obviously ... Because they have good rating on google ... But we were very disappointed ... Probably because there was an event happening as well the service seemed slow ... But our server was very nice and had a beautiful smile ... The portions are small ... The wait for the food was longer than other places which is okay if they delivered the taste and the standard ... We even saw guests who came after us waiting for a long while at the door waiting to be seated... They just seemed very unprepared for Sunday lunch time rush ... Even though they didn't have as many guests except for the party ofcourse ... the place over all felt like it was not very well maintained or clean

WOW defensive much?? I have noticed ... Going through all the reviews ... You tend to to be defensive towards all negetive reviews

If you considered them as important as the positive reviews maybe you will do better

When we entered the restaurant it was completely empty. And there was not a single mention about reservation no one asked about reservation ... So please stop hiding...

Fresh and tasty food, timely service. We’ve had dinner in the restaurant and have ordered in twice now for a lazy Friday. The food is frsh and tasty, and different than the average, which I assume is because they in fact are Nepalese. Pappadums are crispy and flavoured, the Nepalese lamb curry was so good, we devoured it. Mixed vegetable curry was wonderful as well. And we had the chicken with mint appetizers (yum). We also had the Nepalese momo’s before. Portions are good/generous, the rice is not plain but flavoured with a.o. star anise. We have had a very nice experience in the restaurant with attentive service, and when ordering they sent two emails that they are on their way with a phone number (!) to reach them if you have questions and they were exactly (!) on time. Lovely. Definitely ordering at Diwali...
