Villa Borghese Amsterdam — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Just had dinner at this restaurant. Location is 'out of the way' meaning it is in a business area of Amsterdam (not city center), close to 2 hotels. It basically is a destination restaurant, unless you are a hotel guest. Honestly it didn't bother me, as I came expressly (I live near Amsterdam) to have dinner here. Atmosphere is cozy, maybe not for a romantic dinner but nice. One suggestion, I would do away with the huge coffee brand sign which is above the coffee machine. Service is impeccable, nice staff, friendly and competent. Food, the quality of the ingredient is of high standards, no question. Preparation could be a bit better with small adjustments. (hence not the 5 stars). For example, I took Burrata (looks like a mozzarella but the inside is more fluid/liquid) with San Daniele ham. The burrata was cold, and it should be served at room temperature, as to enhance and fully appreciate the milky flavor. I appreciate that the burrata, imported from Italy cannot be daily fresh, hence you have the need to keep it refrigerated, but on the day I would take it out of the fridge in time to have it reach room temperature. Yes it can be risky from a business point of view, since if you don't sell it on the evening you have to part with it (cannot be put back in the fridge), but it would be a worth risk especially if you know the amounts that gets sold per evening you could plan accordingly. Second suggestion, I took the Ossobuco, traditional veal dish from Milan. Meat really tender, good flavors, but it was cold and I mean fridge temperature. Had to send it back, got a new portion and at the end it was not included in the bill. Extra KUDOs since this is something I have never experienced in 25 year I have been living in Amsterdam (and I eat 1-2 a month out at restaurants). Also here appreciating that you prepare the Ossobuco early in the morning (or even the day before, it is still fine) as it takes 2-3 hours to cook the meat. But if prepared early or the day before, as for the burrata take it out of the fridge well in time for it to reach room temperature and then warm it on the stove (most likely was done in the microwave), it doesn't take that long if it is already at room temperature. Inmiddels aantal keer geweest, maar de laatste keer eind april was de druppel.

In de eerste week van opening hebben wij voor 4 afhaalpizza's en een portie groenten ruim een uur gewacht. De communicatie was erg gebrekkig. De Pizza Bianca kwam zonder rucola en was extreem pittig, tot een niveau dat het niet meer lekker was.

Eind februari hebben we een keer in het restaurant gedineerd. Het kostte wat steeds moeite om een ober aan te schieten, maar de pizza's en pasta's waren prima. Leuk om af te sluiten met een shot Limoncello.

Eind maart op donderdag opnieuw ruim 45 minuten gewacht op 1 afhaalpizza. Ter plekke besteld, dus men had de mogelijkheid om direct aan te geven dat het lang kon duren. Ondertussen krampachtig hangen aan de bar en medewerkers aan alle kanten langs zien komen. Geen updates dat het langer duurt, de bestelling bijna klaar was of excuses voor het lange wachten. De Pizza Napoletana was matig belegd. Jammer na een lange werkdag en vervolgens vermoeiende wachtrij bij uw restaurant. Dus niet 'even simpel eten'...

Eind april opnieuw 2 pizza's afgehaald op donderdag. Dit keer eerst online besteld voor 19:30. Vervolgens op uw verzoek verplaatst naar 19:40. Bij aankomst lagen de pizza's gelukkig klaar. Echter: "het is Koningsdag dus we hebben geen donderdagactie"... Dat hadden jullie wel ergens mogen vermelden... Zelfs op de dozen die jullie meegeven staat het: 'DONDERDAG AFHAALPIZZA €9,99'... Opnieuw jammer. Eenmaal thuis (2 min lopen) blijkt de pizza koud te zijn (en één van de bodems gescheurd). Zeker geen 30eu waard!!

Bovenstaande aangekaart bij de eigenaar en welgeteld 1 pizza cadeau aangeboden gekregen.. 👎🏻 misschien over een hele tijd weer, als het wat beter geregeld is. Jammer!

Tot slot laat de vestiging te pas en te onpas allerlei rotzooi achter bij de publieke gemeenschappelijke afvalbakken, of informeert klanten daar verkeerd over. Vieze/gebruikte pizzadozen mogen NIET bij het oud papier en als de wijndozen niet in de container meer passen, kunnen ze prima bij het restafval. Of nog beter: verzorg je eigen particuliere...

Amsterdam Nieuw-Sloten has unfortunately very little to offer in terms of restaurants, bars, cafes and so on. So obviously I was pleasantly surprised when we found this new Italian restaurant had opened its doors in our own backyard.

The menu card is a little bit condensed (I can really crave for a pizza with ansjovis, but unfortunately for me they don't have that over there), but other than that the atmosphere is pleasant and the service is just Ok.

Conclusion: Not a bad restaurant. But time will tell if this restaurant can really become a great restaurant instead of just being a...
